    Alcohol
    Corruption
    Crime
    Gangsters
    They are very common themes in the book. However was it as commonplace as Fitzgerald has depicted?

    His depictions of the Jazz Age were quite romantic and toned down compared to the real thing.
    If he'd told the unvarnished truth he would never have been published.
