Satisfying in terms of costumes, and the overall atmosphere, but the acting....
I was contemplating renting that when I saw it at the video rental place because it looked good and I love Revolutionary France...but it's not on my "MUST WATCH NOW" list. Maybe I won't even rent it now. *researches*

Hm, low ratings, yet it was nominated for an Oscar...

Last one I saw was...ah. "Dr. Strangelove, Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb".

    Loved it. 8/10.

"IT WILL NOT BE DIFFICULT, MEIN FUHRER!"

"Gentlemen, you can't fight in here, this is the war room!"

I just loved the dry satire to it. And the overall plot and feeling to it. So cool.

    Peter Sellers is fantastic.

I think alot of lousy movies are nominated for awards (in particular, the Oscars). I won't get into any of that because I am not in the mood to rant and rave.

Anyway, "Dr. Strangelove". Glad that you liked it. Great film! I would give it a 9/10!!

Amen! And how about the ones that were left in the dust - the true masterpiece of film - well, we know which ones they are and we cherish them so who cares about Hollywood anyway!?

Yes, what a great film! I had not seen it until a year or so ago. I have been hearing about this film nearly my entire life - don't know how I missed it, but I had. So glad I finally got to view it on DVD. It was so funny and the 'dry wit' is perfect and so was Peter Sellers! A real scream with a definite message for all!

I hated that film, but to each his own, DeepTrance. It was just too unrealistic and weird for me! Oops, wait.....sorry...I am thinking of the film "Children of Man"...that film I really hated. I don't think I did see "Little Children - who directed that and who stars in it?

Deep Trance - welcome to Lit Net. I am sure you will find this site very interesting. I love the film thread and other ones, as well, of course. There is a lot here to offer and everyone is so nice and also very helpful.

"Little Children" stars Kate Winslet. She was nominated for an Oscar for this role. It is from 2006. I think I would give it about an 8/10.

LW ....Oh my gosh, am I loosing it or what?....or I probably just comsuming too many movies a year. I saw that film and liked it very much. I also, would rate it about an 8/10.
Oh, DeepTrance was right - it was a pretty 'weird' film, but I thought it was rather good.

Hey, LW, did you get my latest email about the interviews with KB on utube?...they are so entertaining. I spend hours on there yesterday (truly KB obsessed!) and I only hit the tip of the iceberg. Should I send you some of the links? You will ape out....his latest interview, about his two newest films 'Sleuth' and 'Magic Flute', etc. was such a riot. He and Ewan McGregor were hysterical - see interview with Parkinson. You will enjoy that one and the early Charlie Rose ones are great, too. How adorable our guy was back then with various hair and beard styles... .

"Paradise Now" -- personal story re terrorist group. An interesting and very serious study. Expected a diff. ending. This is not entertainment; very sober, very educational.

Haven't much felt like thinking about movies lately just watching but, just watched and am about to sit down to watch it again before I check out the 3 commentary tracks, so I may have some to add afterwards.

"Sympathy for Lady Vengeance" directed by Park Chan-Wook.
Well, it's third in a sort of spiritual trilogy by the director I saw "Oldboy" the second but not the first. After loooving Oldboy so much I had very high expecations for this one and in some aspects it pulls through though it is a very different film though with a similar premise. Stylistically it is gorgeous, Park Chan-Wook has such an aesthetic talent I adore watching his films and I get quite distracted in several scenes. A solid story with twists I didn't feel were as strong as in Oldboy but of course it's a different film and it was quite downplayed which I can appreciate.

It's a very good movie, if you can deal with the content (some people can't I realize) it is immensely enjoyable. I would rate it at about 8/10.

The Passion of Anna by Ingmar Bergman (one of his best underrated films)
Ugetsu by Kenji Mizoguchi (simply beautiful)
