The warden threw a party in the county jail.
The prison band was there and they began to wail.
The band was jumpin and the joint began to swing.
You shouldve heard those knocked out jailbirds sing.

I Burn Today ~ Frank Black

(I'm totally in love with this song right now)

    I knew a girl
    with sad blue eyes
    put out the feast
    I lost my psychic prize
    I did forget
what the tarot maid did say
    I burn today
    I burn today
    our house was filled
    with many birds
she said to me I can understand their words
the land will shake, so run away

    (chorus)
    I burn today
    I burn today
    yesterday I will burn
    for the times
    I did not learn

    she said have fun
    its time has come
    hold my heart strings
    and have yourself a strum
    no, nevermore
    this song will we play
    I burn today eh
    I burn today
    and as I drank
    in old Paris
    she lay her cards
just to see what she would see
down by the water you'll find your happy days

    (chorus)

    I ran so fast
    into the north
    no snow on me
    and so he said thenceforth,
    I let snow fall
    on frozen yesterday
    I burn today
    I burn today
    and if my head
    is hanging down
    I feel her arms
and her legs are all around
    and we make love
    beside the waterway

    (chorus)

    behold the rose
    of Jericho
    how many lives
    I really do not know
    though with the rain
    I know it will return
    today I burn
    today I burn

    inside of me today
    there is no one
    only asteroids and empty space
    a waste

...they're looking through the windows at me...

get me out of this air-conditioned nightmare
rots your brain just like a catchy tune, yeah
you will hate life more than life hates you

happiness is your illness in an air-conditioned nightmare

...burn all your mementos of me...

    walkin' on air
    up from the wheelchair
    i'll find the suicide
    that i deserve

    walkin' on sand
    forgotten where i am
    but it's so comfortable
    here in the sun...

    i only see rainbows
now that the bandages are gone
    through my window, there

    from the skyscrapers
    down to the submarines

    birds and fairies
    sanctuaries
atop the rolling hills of hell

    these words are sledgehammers
    of truth
    that pound the iron heart
    of sin

    bloody smiling
    vandalizing
my wet dream is drying up...

    where's my rainbow?
    where's my halo?

    there's my halo!

Thank You, You're the Sister of my Soul
    Jan Verner

    I woke up this morning
    remembering your name
    was flickering on the screen
    in my dream

There was something I forgot to tell you
after all what we've been through
and after all what we've seen

We take so much for granted
and forget aobut all the little simple things
    in between

    Thank you, 'cause you
are the sister of my soul
and I will never let you down.

    You keep me going
    You keep me singing
    You keep me dancing
On the silver-screen of my soul

    You keep me laughing
You keep me smiling and crying
You keep me doing what I was supposed to do

I never took you for granted
Never expected you to be someone else
Still I don't want to lose you
    Thank you girl, 'cause you're
    the sister of my soul
and I will never, ever let you down

You're so connected to the world
You'r so connected to your heart
    You're so connected to life
    and I say
    It's you and your generation
Who's gonna turn this messed up world into something new
    say it again,
it's you and your generation who's gonna turn this world into something new.

    Thank you girl,
You're the sister of my soul,

Do you, do you, do you, do you
Do you want to dance tonight
Man and Woman Man and Woman's gonna make it right
Man and Woman Man and Woman's gonna make it right

You know, I'm gonna die tonight
I'm gonna fly away to a place
Where there's only peace and calm
But tomorrow I wake up again
Still I'll have the image of your face
Like a firefly on my mind
'cause you light up the corners
you keep me hoping and thinking
there's a silver lining to every cloud
    I'm saying thank you girl,
    you know,
you're the sister of my soul
and I will never let you down.

    Deep Blue, by George Harrison

    When sunshine is not enough
    To make me feel bright
It's got me suffering in the darkness
That's so easy come by on the road-side
    Of one loong life-time

    It's got me deep blue
    You know I'm deep blue

When you stand there, watch tired bodies
    Full of sickness and pain
To show you just how helpless you really are
When you get down to the truth
    It hurts me

    It's got me deep blue
    You know I'm deep blue

When I think of the life I'm living
Pray God help me; give me your light
So I can love you and understand
This repetition that keeps me here
    Feeling deep blue

    It's got me deep blue
    You know I'm deep blue

Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again (From Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Phantom of the Opera"). They have very special meaning for me.

    You were once
    my one companion . . .
    you were all
    that mattered . . .
    You were once
    a friend and father -
    then my world
    was shattered . . .

    Wishing you were
    somehow here again . . .
    wishing you were
    somehow near . . .
    Sometimes it seemed
    if I just dreamed,
    somehow you would
    be here . . .

    Wishing I could
    hear your voice again . . .
    knowing that I
    never would . . .
    Dreaming of you
    won't help me to do
    all that you dreamed
    I could . . .

    Passing bells
    and sculpted angels,
    cold and monumental,
    seem, for you,
    the wrong companions -
you were warm and gentle . . .

    Too many years
    fighting back tears . . .
    Why can't the past
    just die . . .?

    Wishing you were
    somehow here again . . .
    knowing we must
    say goodbye . . .
    Try to forgive . . .
    teach me to live . . .
    give me the strength
    to try . . .

    No more memories,
    no more silent tears . . .
    No more gazing across
    the wasted years . . .
    Help me say
    goodbye.

    Wish I may
    Wish I might
    Have this I wish tonight
    Are you satisfied?
    Dig for gold
    Dig for fame
You dig to make your name
    Are you pacified?

    All the wants you waste
    All the things you've chased

    Then it all crashes down
    And you break your crown
    And you point your finger
    But there's no one around

    Just want one thing
    Just to play the king
    But the castle's crumbled
And you're left with just a name

    Where's your crown, King Nothing?
    Where's your crown?

    Hot and cold
    Bought and Sold
A heart as hard as gold
    Yeah! Are you satisfied?

    Wish I might
    Wish I may
    You wish your life away
    Are you pacified?

    All the wants you waste
    All the things you chased

    Then it all crashes down
    And you break your crown
    And you point your finger
    But there's no one around

    Just want one thing
    Just to play the king
    But the castle's crumbled
And you're left with just a name

    Where's your crown, King Nothing?
    Oh, where's your crown?

    I wish I may
    I wish I might
Have this wish I wish tonight
    I want that star
    I want it now
I want it all and I don't care how

    Careful what you wish
    Careful what you say
    Careful what you wish
    You may regret it
    Careful what you wish
    You just might get it

Agitata Infido Flatu, by Antonio Vivaldi

    Weapons, slaughters, vengances, furies,
    Straits, fears,
    Go before us;
    Turn,
    Fight,
    O warlike fates;
    A thousand plagues,
    A thousand deaths,
    Bring them, you!

    Driven by the faithless blast,
    Long in wandering
    Flight,
    The sad swallow
    Goes in grief,
    Ignorant of good.
But with a breath of serene air
    Quickly forgetful of such pain,
    In the beloved
    Sweet shelter
She laughs, no longer thirsting for joy.

But hey, here's one that isn't:

    Tool -- "The Patient"

A groan of tedium escapes me, startling the fearful.
    Is this a test?
It has to be. Otherwise I can't go on.
    Draining patience. Drain vitality.
This paranoid, paralyzed vampire act's a little old.

But I'm still right here, giving blood and keeping faith.
    And I'm still right here.
But I'm still right here, giving blood and keeping faith.
    And I'm still right here.

    I'm gonna wait it out.

If there were no rewards to reap,
No loving embrace to see me through this tedious path I've chosen here,
I certainly would've walked away by now.

    I'm gonna wait it out.

If there were no desire to heal
The damaged and broken met along this tedious path I've chosen here,
I certainly would've walked away by now.

    I still may.
    And I still may.
    Be patient.

I must keep reminding myself of this...

If there were no rewards to reap,
No loving embrace to see me through this tedious path I've chosen here,
I certainly would've walked away by now.

    And I still may.
    And I still may.
    And I still may.

    I'm gonna wait it out.
    I'm gonna wait it out.
    Gonna wait it out.
    Gonna wait it out.
Ooh, I'm a TOOL fan too. I think them just as strong lyrically as musically (which usually gets all the plaudits). I remember a particular excerpt from their song 'Eulogy':

    Standing above the crowd,
He had a voice that was strong and loud and I
Swallowed his façade cuz I'm so
    Eager to identify with
    Someone above the crowd,
Someone who seemed to feel the same,
Someone prepared to lead the way, and
Someone who would die for me.

The singer is a great lyricist. I also think Bob Dylan's lyrics (poetry) is incredible.

Jeff Buckley is a favourite of mine and most of his lyrics are great, I'm gonna post two of my favourite....

    "Last Goodbye"

    This is our last goodbye
I hate to feel the love between us die
    But it's over
Just hear this and then i'll go
You gave me more to live for
    More than you'll ever know

    This is our last embrace
Must I dream and always see your face
Why can't we overcome this wall
Well, maybe it's just because i didn't know you at all

    Kiss me, please kiss me
But kiss me out of desire, babe, and not consolation
You know it makes me so angry 'cause i know that in time
I'll only make you cry, this is our last goodbye

Did you say 'no, this can't happen to me,'
And did you rush to the phone to call
Was there a voice unkind in the back of your mind
Saying maybe you didn't know him at all
You didn't know him at all, oh, you didn't know

Well, the bells out in the church tower chime
Burning clues into this heart of mine
Thinking so hard on her soft eyes and the memories
Offer signs that it's over... it's over

    "Moodswing Whiskey"

    Mood swing whiskey
Drank it all in the morning
Waiting for the dark to move in
    Sitting in my step-sister's kitchen
    Horseflies on the window sill
Eyes trained on the lemon king
And wishing it were a gun

I'm thinking of our wedding rings
    Trapped inside the heater
Spring water on the floor of this
    Sex starved room

    The nightmare's fires burn
    The waves of bliss
I tried to stop it with my hand
I was lost in the kiss
    With you

    Mood swing whiskey
    Your bliss, the actress,
    Bliss, the assassin
    Bliss, the abyss

Did a crazy shot of whiskey
    In about zero to sixty
All i could see was the beer

I face the future with a drink in my right
    Eyes to the sparkling gloom
    Body naked, afraid, and amazed

Say boost me up to your junkyard paradise
Boost me up to your junkyard paradise
With a sweet-*** photo of you

She cheated, and she lied, and you stole her
    Stung my tongue just like
    Sweat from her shoulder

    Ooh, mood swing whiskey
    Your love, the destroyer
    Love, the destroyer
    Love, love...

Yes mood swing whiskey has my brain
Only you can break this chain
Are you here in my bed again
Can you hear my love again [x4]

Run down the subway station babe
    I'm packing my rod
    All and present histories erased
    I am a punishing god
    Mood swing whiskey
Yeah the leaves are made of
    Messy things again

And i said this is all the headless acrobats
Faces crushed in the circus dust
All for the law of gravity
    And the price of admission

Beautiful loser warm hearts have let you down
Beautiful loser warm hearts have left you
    Oh no, you...

I think of mankind in quotation marks
Ever since i took a drink from you
This is for all the headless acrobats
Faces crushed in the circus dust
All in the name of gravity
    And the price of admission

Beautiful loser while eyes have let you now
Beautiful loser while eyes have let you now
    Cause you're beautiful

I think of mankind in quotation marks
Ever since I took a drink of you
I hope death is joyful, and I hope I'll never return -Frida Khalo

If I seem insensitive to what you are going through, understand it's the way I am- Mr. Spock

Personally, I think that the unique and supreme delight lies in the certainty of doing 'evil'–and men and women know from birth that all pleasure lies in evil. - Baudelaire

    i can wait
    i can wait
i can sit wondering what in world you think about
i don't think i'm ever gonna figure it out
after all the alchohol, the pretty words that devolve down
    to slurs and drunken shouts
i don't think i'm ever gonna figure it out
it's like some wild last frontier
you never know what kind of fight's gonna appear
that once begun can't be won
started out losing already and go all ten rounds
i don't think i'm ever gonna figure it out
the tired hits that fall below
    i can't connect, yeah yeah i know
    i can wait
    i can wait
i can sit wondering what in the world you think about
i don't think i'm ever gonna figure it out
i don't think i'm ever gonna figure it out
i don't think i'm ever gonna figure it out

    Emotions, crystal leaves

    Twin stars of brilliant brightness,
Lanterns lit by life for all the dark night.
And every day will return us
To arms of the ever eternal.

    And so here we are,
    So far from earthly orbits,
Burning supernovas of all sound and sight,
Where every day will return us
To arms of the ever eternal.

"He had a word, too. Love, he called it. But I had been used to words for a long time. I knew that that word was like the others: just a shape to fill a lack; that when the right time came, you wouldn't need a word for that any more than for pride or fear."
