    Human Interest

There is a very simple explanation of why Frankenstein has become and remained so popular over the years. The themes and motifs that act as the backbone of the entire story are virtues that have carried on through human development. Take for example the industrial revolution, which sparked the interest for a quest of knowledge throughout the entire world. Birth and creation have always been heavily debated issues both morally and ethically. It is very interesting to take note of changing ideas about Frankenstein as a result of different opinions and perspectives. Another key theme that has become established is the beauty of nature. Audiences both in 1818 as well as today have always respected the beauty of nature. This directly relates to sublime theme, which is referenced to many times in the book. In some instances, the monster describes scenes of nature so sublime that it is painful. This idea of sublime also relates to the monster as a whole, which has become a sublime creation of Victor. These are just some of the factors that have kept Frankenstein an all-time favorite. This book is filled with emotion and feeling in which readers can identify with. Mary Shelley probably didn't have any idea of how popular her "ghost story" would become but her straightforward and personal writing style is something that every reader can relate too. As time progresses, I’m sure that many more opinions will be formed about Frankenstein, and undiscovered similarities between the past and present will result.
