There's a section on this website which has short stories and complete novels set out so that you can read a chapter at a time.
I'm from the UK so I don't know what to suggest that you read as I may suggest things that are of no use to your course. What sort of thing are you doing on your literature course? Is it modern or classical writing?
The work that you can access on this website seems to be based around classical writers, which has been useful for me as I've been doing a creative writing course. I had a look at Virginia Woolf's short stories recently, they're quite fun but very intense.
I am not really certain I understand the question, but do you mean this:
Fiction is devided into:
Science Fiction
Fantasy
Romance
Mystery
Historical Fiction
Gothic
Horror
Pulp Fiction (Usually deals with a larger than life hero as the central character)
Comic or Graphic Novels
And a blend of any of the above...
Hope this helps!

Some of us smoke
Some of us lie
But it's all just the way
that we cope with our lives...

Thanks, Sub.
I knew I was leaving something out, I just couldn't get the names right!![]()
That would make our list:
Fiction is devided into:

Historical Fiction
Gothic
Horror
Thrillers
Suspense
Poetry
Short Stories
Pulp Fiction (Usually deals with a larger than life hero as the central character)

Anybody else have something to add?![]()

Try looking here
I have a plan: attack!
The list that Jay posted a link to is pretty good, but fundamentally all fiction is writing about things that are not actual fact. The subgenres are deceptive, because most fiction can be included in more than one subgenre, and most of the subgenres describe the kind of setting used, rather than the type of plot or theme or style of writing.
it might also be the case that the answer you are looking for is just: Poetry, Drama (theatre) and novels
