Faerie Castle

green
damp
quiet
lifeless
eery and ancient
as though
this castle never changes
and never will
frozen in time
faerie-play.
green.
so green.
under my feet
the damp ground shows
beneath its' cover
of seeds and twigs
a chorus
small, yet audible
of crickets
distant
the peaceful call
of the mourning dove
barely a breath
of wind
moves the cool air
far away
a mist
almost white sky
beyond the canopy
thick undergrowth
a majestic courtyard
green floor
tall trees
vines form castle walls
balconies
and windows
a jungle within
a gate
framed by branches
with a roof of leaves
but I choose the smaller way
a doorway covered in vines
beyond,
dense cover far above
moss rugs
throughout the passageway
it ends, too soon
and I am
face to face
with a young spruce tree.
perhaps, this castle shall return
when the faeries play
