Personally, I have never read a biography of H.G. Wells, but I did some searching around, and found some decent reviews of H.G. Wells: Desperately Mortal: A Biography by David C. Smith. Additionally, and I had not known the fact until now, but H.G. Wells published Experiment In Autobiography in 1934, which may also interest you.
