Nine Out of Ten
Great balls of Dragon fire!
The birthdays today reach the number ten!
I deeply regret, though it be my desire,
That I must cover them all in a single poem.
Who are they, I wonder, nine whom I don't know,
But certainly persons of merit I'd love to meet.
Can they extinguish their candles in one single blow?
Or like myself, is that beginning to become quite a feat?
Time waits for no one, it turns mountains to sand,
And causes the rivers to mar the landscape.
It eventually makes helpless the strongest man,
And writes with its pencil lines on every face.
But let us not dwell on the things that philosophers debate:
Today is your birthday. Get out there and celebrate!
