American teenagers today are similar to the Proles in George Orwell’s novel 1984. Proles in the novel were identified as the people who lived in Oceania who were paid low wages and were of a low class living. They had no political interest and made up of 85% of the population. They believe what they hear and have their own slang just like the newspeak used in the novel. The party also believes hope lied within the Proles.
Teenagers today read magazines. A lot of information that goes on in the world today is in magazines and newspaper and a lot of it isn’t true but they believe it ne way. Examples of these readings would be us weekly, cosmopolitan, or basically anything that relates to celebrity gossip. This is similar to the Proles in 1984 because that always believe what they read and hear and don’t consider fictional facts. Teens today never think that way either.
In our world today teenagers have made up there own vocabulary or their own slang. The Proles in 1984 did the same and eliminated words in their vocabulary. Teens these days don’t eliminate the words exactly but they will change the style of the word or say it in a different way. They are alike by new words and speak but they have different ways of going about it. Proles eliminate meaning to one specific meaning and teens make more words up but they all have the same meaning.
A common thing for teenagers to hear from adults or their parents is that they are the future. This has the same concept as the Proles in 1984. The party thinks that hope lies within the Proles. If any change in government or the way things were done it would be up to them to do so. Teenagers are the future today because they are the up and coming adults to make decisions about the way our country will be ran and what changes will be brought. This is important now because our country is in a time of depression so people are paying more close in attention to the future and how things are going to be fixed.

    Are Teenagers Similar to Proles?
I believe American teenagers are similar to the proles. The proles are considered to be like animals. Page sixty-one says they are said to be natural inferiors which teenagers are considered to be. The proles are treated as ignorant and so are teenagers in our time. Also, the proles are politically interested like the teenagers. Teenagers do not like politics. Page sixty-two states that the proles do not have to have strong feelings about politics. The main difference between the proles and teenagers is that the proles are eighty-five percent of the population and teenagers are not. Teenagers are also the only hope like the proles since they are the future.
The proles are lowest class of citizens. Teenagers are also the lowest class since they are considered to be adults when they are 18, so they have the least amount of money. Teenagers watch Jersey Shore which is like prole feed. Prole feed is unintelligent information so the proles do not become smart. Another similarity between the proles and teenagers are they are both happy because they are ignorant. Ignorance is bliss for them.
In conclusion, the proles and teenagers are mostly similar. They both represent hope. Teenagers are ignorant and so are proles. Proles and teenagers should unite.

Are the proles in the book 1984 similar to teenagers today? The proles are very similar to teenagers in society today. In many ways they can relate to each other. The proles are the hope for Oceania and they are an uneducated group of people. Teens today can be compared to the proles.
We look to the teens of our society as the hope for the future. They are the future leaders and the people who will take care of us when we can not. Teens are watched constantly by parents, coaches, teachers or some authority figure. The difference between teens and the proles is that we are free to do whatever we want with some limitations. Usually teens are not very educated. They go to school but their not learning the things that are really important in society. They don’t learn the things that go on in the world now or anything truly useful out in the real world. Also the teachers’ limit what is learned in class based on the lesson plan and the size of the book is too much to go though in one school year.
The proles in 1984 are the hope for Oceania. They do not have telescreens in their homes. They are left alone to do their thing. Proles make up 85% of the population in 1984 and teens make up a big majority as well. They are born without having an education set up for them so they are very uneducated. They are too dumb to know what is going on so if you tell them that something is a certain way they will believe it. Proles can still be convicted of thoughtcrime but The Party leaves them alone.
Teens and proles are basically the same thing. Both are uneducated and have no idea about the political viewpoints of their societies. Both make up a majority of the population. We look to teens as the hope for our society and the proles are the hope for Oceania.

    Proles vs. American teens
Teens and proles have a lot of similarities and differences for instance proles and teens both make up the majority of the population. However in the book it says” proles and animals are free” meaning that the proles do not really have the same rules as someone who is controlled by the party. The proles are able to come and go as they please and not really attacked by the thought police. In relation most teens do what they want and don’t really care what parents or others say. In the book George orwell describes the proles as the hope of the future. Teens today are the hope of our country they are forced to make decisions that are to influence the rest of our country. One of the major difference between teens and proles is that teens want their independence and they have minds of there owns. Teens tend to think for themselves. Teens and proles both don’t understand what’s going on with the world. In the book though this is how the proles survive as they do because they do what they want and the party leaves them alone. They both also have simple lives. Teens and proles have a lot of similarities and differences.

Are American teenagers similar to the proles in 1984? Teenagers today are very similar to the proles in 1984. Like the proles, teenagers are considered to be the hope for the future. Not only do teenagers stand for hope, but they also have little political interests, have no money and are very gullible.
In 1984, the proles stand for hope. Although they don’t seem to realize they have the ability to take over the party, they do. In Winston’s perspective, the proles have more power than realized. Because the proles are the majority of the population, they could easily overcome the party. There are more proles than there are party members, but it’s up to the proles to make a change. This is considered hope. The lives of others lie in the hands of the proles. This relates to teenagers, because teenagers also have the ability to not only change things to make them better, but to continue the ideas of others and establish new things. Teens today are the hope for the future.
Majority of teens in America tend to have little political interests. This is probably due to the fact that teens are selfish human beings and feel that politics are the least of their worries. Also many teens just simply don’t understand the complexity that political issues bring. Proles in 1984 also have little political interest. This is not because they don’t have the willingness to learn; but it’s because they don’t understand what is going on. Proles do not have the choice to take a political interest because they are unaware of what is going on.
The proles in 1984 are the lowest class in society and have bare living. Although not all teenagers have bare living; they can be considered to be less wealthy than any other well educated human being. Proles and teens relate because they don’t have a lot of money and are considered poor. This is a higher impact on proles, because the proles are also grown adults and its hard to raise a family with little to none living. Teenagers may not suffer quite like the proles but they do indead have things they want and without money they cant receive them.
In 1984, the proles have no say in how they live their lives. The party controls everything from how they learn to what they do. Proles are very uneducated because the party makes them that way. They will believe whatever they are told without question. This makes them gullible. Teens are also uneducated to a certain extent and listen to their elders for information. How do we know what our elders tell us is the total truth and not a way to dumb us down like the party does to the proles?
Teenagers in America are indeed similar to the Proles in 1984. Proles are the hope to overcome the party and teens are the hope for the future. Proles and teens both have little political interests. This is do to lack of either ability to learn such as in the proles case or the unwillingness to learn such as in the teenagers case. Teens and proles are also poor human beings and tend to be gullible and uneducated.

American teenagers today I believe are indeed similar to the proles of George Orwell’s novel 1984. Orwell’s describes the proles as physically fit, sexually active & going with the flow type people. “Left to themselves, like cattle turn loose upon the plains of Argentina”. Most of teenagers today have no supervision so just like the proles they are left to themselves. Teens go threw life & are being taught by the older generation & learn what they are being told. But how do they know what they are learning is the truth?
In Orwell’s novel he speaks about how the hope is within the proles. The proles makes up 85% of the population & Orwell explains how the proles really are the only ones who can over throw big brother & the party. American teens are just like the proles in this aspect. If they were to choose to do so they could corrupt government, rebel, & run things the way they wanted to since the older generations are getting older & the next ones in line to run the country are the American teens. But of course like everything in this world & the novel 1984 media is a huge influence in the teen’s lives as well as the proles.
Teens watch TV, movies, & read magazines which all have the purpose of trying to get people to believe in & want what they are advertising. Proles also are influence by telescreens & anything else that they read or see. The only difference in the proles & American teens is that the teens today are not as controlled as the proles they have a choice or not to watch & read these many influences.
Also teens today have their own “slang talk”. Same as the proles with newspeak both are a languages which have been created to work around the system. Texting is a very good example because with texting u breaks every word down to try & quickly have a conversation without to much work. Same with newspeak it was created to have every one on the same page & learn a new way of breaking down conversation so that the “old school” way of speaking wasn’t a custom anymore.

It is important to understand that the Proles are not representative of an age group.

The question posed is interesting, however.

There are cetainly some comparisons that make sense.

The first thing that comes to mind is the willingness to accept information as the simple truth. Today's teenagers think less critically than those of even 10 or 15 years ago. They're satisfied too easily. As mentioned in an eariler post, the media they are exposed to simply gives them information in short sound bytes where the opportunity to digest is simply there, but not much else.

I'm also easily drawn to the concept of Newspeak that Orwell gives us. Spend any time with a teenager and you're drawn to their use of the cell phone for texting purposes. A look at the texts shows their "newspeak".

It's also important to note how little time they spend communicating one on one or face to face. They're limiting themselves in how they communicate in so many ways. Big Brother would be smiling ear to ear.
