    Help with a certain dialogue.

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could help me; I'm researching the secret garden for Uni and was wondering the dialogue in which mary says to colin, something about a boy with the universe down his throat?

My speakers are busted so I can't listen to any Audio clips!

    Many thanks!

OK doke that would be, my books upstairs but Inm pretty certain its around the time she introduces him to Dickon and before they all go out to the garden.
Ok thats strange its my favourite book and Ive ead it enough times to know... I recognise it as a discription of dickon but can't find it. But when I come to think of it as I can "see" the dialogue in my head are you sure its not from the movie??

Yes right I googled it ... its definitly the movie.
As I remeber it Colin and mary are fighting and she says that about Dickon later they laugh about it.
Its not in the book though its I think a replacement for the "native animal charmers"

    Secret Garden to Libertine

What a great story for a uni paper.

Francis Hodgson Burnett books make for movies that also inspire.

A while back I was talking with a friend and novelist back in the States. He had just published a great book, "The Smithy Miracles." My comment was that I loved books that inspired and uplifted and caused deep thought. I mentioned three favorite stories from books and then movies. Little Lord Fauntleroy, Little Princess (The Story of Sara Crew), and Secret Garden. All by Burnett.

This friend then told me he was friends with the granddaughter of Francis Hodgson Burnett. This granddaughter was a Christian Scientist and shared that it was her grandmother that introduced the family to Christian Science. And although some biographies claimed that Burnett was a spiritualist and studied spiritualism, that this was not accurate. She became a student of Christian Science.

That helped me understand the powerful messages of faith, healing, renewal, restoration etc. that come through her later writing.

    Thought you might be interested.

Humm so your studying The film??
Or the boook because if its the book I'd [pretty much ignore the film becasue the plot errors in that thing are incredible.
    a) the mothers werent twins Colins mother was Marys dads younger sister
    b) there wasnt an earthquake it was Cholera
    c) "Mother" Susan Som---- doesnt appear in the film
The whole thing with dr craven isnt there either, although the almost racist scene with martha is strangley enough.
yupp the film wasnt a patch on the book.

Ahhh I see, thank you very much also Nightshade! I'm studying The Secret Garden as a whole, although it would be best for me if i made sure all my information derived from the right sources, I'm also studying costume so I watched the film to get an idea of how the clothing was painted during the time. I actually chose to do TSG after finding the empty VHS box in my sister's basement! Thank you once again.

you, might try the internet the book is late 19th C, I belive you could try and hunt up some of the orginal illustrations.
There is actually quite alot of stress on clothes in Burrneyts books as I remeber, off the top of my head I can think of 7 referances to clothes in the first part of TSG.
The memsahib( mary's mother) is nearly defined by her clothes.
Mary is desctribed as sour and queer looking because of the contrast between her yellow skin and the black clothes she wears.
Mrs medlocks clothes show marys first impression.
Archibald craven orders new clothes for Mary in bright colours .
There i the girl with the parrot in the stiff green brocade dress.
    to name a few.
