I enjoyed War of the Worlds greatly, even more than the recent screen adaption. I have to say, Steven Spielburg did a very good job of capturing the "spirit" of the book and modifying it to today's world. However cool his squiddy aliens looked, though, I much prefer the outlandishness of Wells's brain-beings.
Is the world spinning, or just my head? If everyone's heads were spinning but the world really wasn't, would it matter at all if the world wasn't spinning?
Why do you think Wells chose the time machine as a topic for his book?
