All of these are good for background music or for serious listening.

Hungarian Dances by Brahms are also very nice
in addition: Prokofjev and Rohmaninov...i might be wrong with spelling. but you got the idea....they are famous enough.
Vivaldi - 4 seasons i guess is the most widely known piece.
I like classical music ,although i really love opera.One of the most wonderfull 'songs' ever,is Moonlight Sonnata by L.V. Beetowen (not sure about the spelling :oops: )

I can't beleive no one has mentioned Rachmaninov! Variations on a theme by Paganini is my absolute favorite! Mendolson is another good composer.

Once again, thanks for all of the recommendations. Right now, I'm listening to "Planets" by Gustav Holst. In one word, it's brilliant. I'm fascinated as to how these people came up with such beautiful pieces of music.

Sometimes people have pointed out stupid (and pretentious) details after I'd posted comments on other threads. So my remarks were not meant to be offensive, they were purely pre-emptive. I apologize if that rubs some people the wrong way.
