    …EMPTY PROMISES!
I only wanted to show you how ebullient I could be, he cried
    They went upstairs
These things you did because you thought you wouldn’t be accepted have
    UPSET people, she exclaimed
I’d like to get into that gymnasium, she told him
It has the vastness and colour of the sky but
    is also
    ………………..a fitnness facility

But fitting in makes no difference to anything, he sighed.
The…lamp still on, I realized suddenly I had returned quietly
to the equivocal comfort of her presence
    in the grey pillow

Sounds like you live quite a life. I used to back in the day, have a "cross-starred lovers, twenty-one years of drunken orgies with whores in the night" to remember it by, as a token that it occured.

I much prefer this sanity of my daily existence today - a tad boring, yes, but peaceful with peace that passes understanding. I long for drama no more (detoxed when I was twenty-four.)

You might consider it, if life pains you like this.

I enjoyed it too - BLP packed alot of passion in a relatively short verse.

Thanks. And thanks for your concern. Actually, I'm pretty sedate really, and most of my hangover's actually are kind of easy, though you never can tell. This would be a bit of the old 'emotion recollected in tranquillity'.

Oh, didn't notice this before. You don't write quite like that any more now, it seems.

A poem in such a complex form slows down the reading, or rather, interrupts. It's like a walk in a labyrinth. But it does add varied and spontaneous feelings to it.

No. Well, at the time I was much more involved with writing poetry in general and was interested in experimenting. And I might be again sometime, but at the moment I've got other things to do.

Yeah. There are one or two bits where you can either read across or down and actually make different senses of it. But you can also read it fast and let the jumble stay a jumble.

I'm with white camel about this complex slowing the reader down. To read it fast seems unnatural to me. When I got down to the third line I sensed the start of an unravelling and glanced up at the title for a hint into how much abstraction I might be encountering ahead. "Paths crisscross" says it all. But despite my first impression, this piece is not actually complicated or jumbled, it's very structured, right down to the s pac ing. By the end it's apparent the sum is greater than its parts. I always enjoy the experimental stuff, this with some nice rhythm, just no single line or stanza grabbing me if you know what I mean.

The paths run criss cross thing is from the Richard Wilhelm edition of the I-Ching, where it's metaphorical, obviously, but I think it's such a perfect thing to say about morning.

    Glad the structure comes across.

Religious? Moi? Perish the thought and let it have no afterlife. I said metaphorical, not metaphysical. But sure, anyway, Shalom to you too.

Sorry 'bout that. I should have known better.
