Slice is actually supposed to be an anti-cut poem. If you think about it, the reason i wrote it so disgusting is so that normal people would never want to try it!

Well.. "disgusting" is a very strong word. I think that people who cut or self-mutilate have enough hate and anger directed at themselves that, sure, it's not acceptable behaviour, but they don't need to be told they're "disgusting" too.Originally Posted by yellowfeverlime

A good poem is one that can make you feel a strong emotion (good or bad doesn't matter) That's what I think anyways
Good poems have an economy of language, and though they do not necessarily have rhyme or a set beat, they do flow well. I certainly agree that good poem incite strong emotions, but I'd like to add that the best poems are subtle in how they do it. I mean, word choice when describing a memory or sensation can carry a lot more emotion than describing the emotion itself. Er...am I making any sense at all?

True. Yellowlime, you certainly have a lot of things on your mind and I definitely admire you for sharing them.Originally Posted by subterranean
As for a good poem, I agree with everybody's reply.
"...You can say anything you want, yessir, but it's the words that sing, they soar and descend.... I bow to them... I love them, I cling to them, I run them down. I bite into them, I melt them down.... I love words so much... The unexpected ones....The ones I wait for greedily or stalk until, suddenly, they drop..." -Pablo Neruda
Lol. So, based on this criteria, what are some examples of good poems?
Here is a good poem:
[somewhere i have never travelled]
somewhere i have never travelled, gladly beyond
any experience, your eyes have their silence:
in your most frail gesture are things which enclose me,
or which i cannot touch because they are too near
your slightest look easily will unclose me
though i have closed myself as fingers,
you open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens
(touching skilfully,mysteriously) her first rose
or if your wish be to close me,i and
my life will shut very beautifully, suddenly,
as when the heart of this flower imagines
the snow carefully everywhere descending;
nothing which we are to perceive in this world equals
the power of your intense fragility: whose texture
compels me with the color of its countries,
rendering death and forever with each breathing
(i do not know what it is about you that closes
and opens; only something in me understands
the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses)
nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands
Simple, unassuming; however, still says the most with the least words, stirring a whole range of emotions in you and it is harmonious.
