I read this book in my freshman English class at Georgia Tech. Why did my professor opt to torture her English 1101 class like this? I did not like the book, and the papers/presentations that I was forced to create afterwards merely served to intensify my misery.

I agree that this book is terrible; I thought I would give it a chance in my English class instead of using sparknotes because it is a "classic" but it has no action or anything interesting at all, the sensory imagery is pointless and arouses no reaction at all in the reader. I don't see how Joyce is a genius just because he made up a few bloody words and wrote in stream of conciousness with lots of detail; if anyone wants creative genius they should read Lord of the Rings or Dostoevsky, but this book sucks.

This book is that hardest book I have ever read it is not interesting at all and the story is just plain boring if I wasn't made to read this book I would have never read it.
