The most important thing in this novel is one I believe is most relevant to our situation. Once again we read of a one world government (United Nations) and they seek to control the entire world. It degrades humanity and turns us from people to numbers in order to preserve its own "stability" and power. There is a significant difference between this and the world of 1984.

There control is maintained by constant government surveillance, secret police, and torture, much like new security policies put in place by countries after 9/11.(notably Canada/USA) However in the Brave New World power is maintained through genetic and technological changes to humans that affect them from birth till death.

In Brave New World the Govt. actually changes what people want, not force and intimidation. The government of Brave New World makes its citizens happy and superficially fulfilled. This in the form of Soma and the Consumer culture they have created has erased their want of personal freedom. Much like the Immediate gratification consumer culture that the USA forces down the throat of the world.

In Brave New World they stand to lose dignity, courage, loyalty, morals and values. Basically all the things that make us human in the first place. What led to this? was it negligence? ignorance? no no my friends... it was Gun Control. If right wing guys were let loose on the promiscuous scientists with c-7's you better believe that the world would not reach the state in Brave New World. So in short... Bill C-68? Just Say No
