I agree that it doesn't make sense so you aren't the only one. But I think that it gives you an idea of the other stories that can happen in the jungle and the world. But normally I just read to the end of chapter 3 and stop cause thats my favourite bit!
From what I can guess it has to do with and explanation of how Mowgli knows the Laws of the Jungle, why he doesn't consort with apes (who are the closest thing to k\him in the Jungle), and give reason why Baloo and Bagheera are the way they are. It helps to explain why they would defend Mowgli when he is first presented to Council and their place with the Free People.
i was rather confused when reading the jungle book after chapter 3. i dont understand what they have to do with the story.. i am rather dum anyway so could someone please explain it to me?
