    Ventilator Blues

    Ventilator Blues

    Lyrics
When your spine is cracking and your hands, they shake
Heart is bursting and your butt's gonna break
Woman's cussing, you can hear her scream
Feel like murder in the first degree
Ain't nobody slowing down no way
    Everybody's stepping on their accelerator
    Don't matter where you are
    Everybody's gonna need a ventilator
When you're trapped and circled with no second chance
Code of living is your gun in hand
Can't be browed by beating, can't be cowed by words
Messed by cheating, ain't gonna ever learn
    Everybody walking 'round
Everybody trying to step on their Creator
Don't matter where you are, everybody, everybody gonna
Need some kind of ventilator, some kind of ventilator
    Come down and get it
What you gonna do about it, what you gonna do?
What you gonna do about it, what you gonna do?
Gonna fight it, gonna fight it
Gonna fight it, gonna fight it
Gonna fight it, gonna fight it
Gonna fight it, gonna fight it
Gonna fight it, gonna fight it
Gonna fight it, gonna fight it
Gonna fight it, gonna fight it

And so, Alfie, what’s Ventilator Blues all about? It could be about a lot of things, from the ventilator not working in the steamy conditions of where the Stones recorded it, to anyone’s and everyone’s bad habits. And what if you see it meaning literally Everyone’s Bad Habits when it comes to polluting Mother Nature and killing the planet? Let’s look at it through this last lens.
You feel terrible about what’s happened to Planet Earth. You know you contribute to Mother Nature’s illness every day in one way or another. Mother Nature is cussing, you can hear her scream. You feel like a murderer in the first degree.
In other words, guilty. And the future looks bleak because the laws controlling pollution are being repealed instead of extended and enforced. Our code of living is now determined by corporate interests that literally put a gun to our heads and expect us to take our turn playing Russian Roulette with our children’s future.

These corporate interests will resist being halted by traditional methods and will never learn to put the health of our planet above their profits and loss sheets. They’ll willingly tread on Mother Nature now, as long as it shows a profit. To Hell with the future and breathing clean air.

What are we going to do about it?

What are we going to do?

    Vote, that’s what.

Funky song from 50 years ago... and influences before that. Worth pondering. Thanks for sharing.
