    A Dog: Through & Through.

I had a fella that I loved very much
Sweet in his manner and soft to the touch
With a big wide smile and a bigger heart still
And tenderness that seemed to trite to be real.

I have a dog breed that is banned in France
    Wrench a man right back,
by the seat of his pants
    Rip 'em right through
    Strip the flesh underneath
    This is my dog
    And those are his teeth

    Both share a name
Because the man was a dog
Not at first, but in time
Yes, the man was a dog
    He didn't bark, didn't growl
    Couldn't muzzle him too
    But the man was dog
And a dog through and through

    People hate this hound
That I have for my friend
    As he's so hostile
    And determined to end
    Any chatter or exchange
I should have in the street
    With a rumbling growl
Then a launch for the feet
Men know now to call to me from
    Way across the road
Cos this dog could really do it
    Yes, this dog is bold

    Both share a name
Because the man was a dog
Not at first, but in time
Yes, the man was a dog
    He didn't bark, didn't growl
    Couldn't muzzle him too
    But the man was dog
And a dog through and through

People often say I moved on real fast
I like this beast much better than the last
What can you do, when you find the real thing
    Put him on a leash
    Take him out walking
This one can't fake that he's just feral
So anyone coming is aware of peril
I'll hold him real tight, real close, real near
But if my dog turns loose
    Then you better beware.

Enjoyed your poem... Still trying to bend my mind around the duality of man and beast. A change in nature using "had" and "have" from s1 to s2 is interesting. Perhaps a Jeckle&Hyde take on a friend.... Food for thought
