    The reason why socialism in this novel was "lost" as you say is because the only way for Upton Sinclair to have it published was for it to be revised. During this revision, almost all parts about socialism were deleted.

    After I got passed about chapter 17, the book finally started to get very interesting! I thought the whole message of socialism was completely lost, and I felt the book had to do with poor work conditions and corruption in American at the turn of the century. Overall the book was good, a bit long, but still worth reading.
