    a clockworks nightingale... nightingale/ secret/impending/android/music

the androids had taken over the local pub
androgynous instrumental music the new fare
but secretly, most stealthily, with none aware
a clockworks nightingale was booked as a sub
    - some sensed an impending disaster

but when the lights dimmed about the androids
and the spotlight blazed beyond compare
    upon the clockworks nightingale extraordinaire
something nostalgic did stir in hearts that whirled
in a blur when its sweet song filled the air

"something nostalgic did stir in hearts that whirled
in a blur when its sweet song filled the air"

    coin/lamp/cedar/beltway/roust

    It all started
    with a coin
    he found under
    the old cedar,
    while driving
    along the beltway.

    As it was night
    he had to get
    his lamp to see it.
    He put the
    shining piece
    in his pocket,
    and drove home.

    Next morn he found
    to coins.
    At noon there were four
    and at the end
    of the day,
    There were already,
    Sixty-four pieces of gold!

He went out and had a gorgeous
    lunch with his girl friend.
In the evening he came back
    to his now 128 coins.

    During a week
    He lived like a king.
    he bought all he wanted
    bought expensive presents
    for his friends, planed
    the holydays
    he never had had.

    And each time he
    came home
    his coins had doubled
    in quantity.

    They began to fill
    the house,
    So he bought
    a larger one.
    But he got rousted
    from this house too
    by his incessantly
    multiplying guests.

    He asked his
    best friend for shelter.
But soon this house too threatened
    to become overflooded with coins
    and he had to leave.

    He started to live
    in the streets.
    He still ate well
    for he was rich.
    He even attracted
    clients to the restaurants,
    who were after his coins.

    But he grew restless,
    with his incontrollable welt.
The town was filling with coins
and the citizens who first were happy
    began to be afraid.

    The major told him
    If the spook didn´t cease
    he would have to
    leave the town.
    He moved to the streets
on the outskirts of the town
    together with a flood of
    golden coins.

    Then one day,
    when he was
    drinking water from a font
    he didn´t dare to go
    to the bars any more,
    the coin he had found
    fell into the fountain.
    The coins ceased to multiply,
    in seconds they all disappeared.
He went back to his old house
    and lived happily ever after.

But did I tell you about my pet hippopotamus' hypothalamus ?

    (hippopotamus/ hypothalamus/truck/receding/ atmosphere)

Y'all know what a great dancer my pet hippopotamus was:
(Her) “pirouettes so refined and grand mal.
Your cabrioles into a plie´ received great praise -
Most assuredly the belle of the ball."

... and how well she dealt with the penguin:
"Simply counting aloud from one to ten,
Forestalled the need for an execution."

and how she and her friends got along with the hyenas:
    "hissing hippos hurry, having hit
    hastily harped hysterical hyenas,
    hospitalized handling hurricanes
    historically hesitant hearing
    horrendously hungry hoodoos"

Well I'll tell you - the atmosphere was as thick
as thieves with them doctor's and such; all the cuttin'
and pumpin' fluids and drugs and all to remove my
poor hippo's hypothalamus... it must have been them
hoodoos that put a hex on it, I’m dang certain of it

Anywho, as I watched the semi-truck receding in the
twilight... (she couldn't fit in one of them fancy am-bu-lan-ces)
headed for recovery central I pondered (what I do best) on what
the bejeebies was the doctor jibber-jabbering about homeostasis ?

Lol! Poor, poor hippo! Liked specially the word play and the elegant alliteration.

    mist/amok/fold/canvas/doorbell

    The hurricane

    Do you remember
    how the wind ran amok
    folding the wood houses
    like so many canvas tents?

Buried in the mists of time
    memories come alive
    as i press
    the doorbell
    of the new house!

Love the archeological disaster poem !

Thought I'd take a stab at my challenge too

    Sotheby's, Nine O'clock
    ... (mist/amok/fold/canvas/doorbell)

'twas no one's surprise they went to a rich duck
unfolded a tale through the veritable mists of time
though to a canvasback one to have had the luck ?
    - doorbells including one from the Addams Family on
the block when the auctioneer's hammer last struck
reminiscent of Aunt Clara's collection of doorknobs
though proving more charitable after the bidding went amok

    7/11/2022

    Never Inuit enough !
    ... (landing/spree/ Inuit/solipsistic/cringing)

"Inuit": I knew it !... Never Inuit enough !
My deep seated solipsistic slant sent me cringing
as I read the news from Qikiqtaaluk when the
    Qikiqtani Inuit song/poem contest winners
were announced... I knew it ! "Never Inuit
enough !" - insult ever landed to my shattered
id as if my shopping spree poem didn't rate a
prize over two children playing together: I knew it !

    re: "Archeological disaster" is good!
Interesting poem, an unusual subject. Would Scrooge McDuck(here known as Tio Patinhas) be the rich duck in Sotheby's, Nine O'clock?

Never Inuit enough!-Liked again the unusual subject.

    Clichè

    A faint aurora
    over the sea
    The nostalgic sound
    of an accordion
    from afar
    People relishing bananas
    under a palm tree.

    If you follow me
    you´ll find
    no stripes and banners.
    Just an irreverent mirror
    of identity.

Wonderful poem Larger than life ! Had some trouble playing your video... A touching documentary I found contains a number of segments about Carmen
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YpLyD2e1Bc

even the elves have gone - an acrostic
    (river/skyscraper/elves/Andalusia/laughing)

A skyscraper rid the world of clouds -
    Rivers and seas no longer refreshed;
    Mountains divested of their snowcaps;
    Andalusian dreamscapes once heralded
Gateways by Hemingway - scorched earth.
Ecosystems' equilibriums in full tilt toward
Death, extinction of all we loved and cherished.
Oh, how the mighty have fallen o' man -
No one's laughing - even the elves have gone

Thanks! And thanks for the documentary on CM!
Your poem-sad but true! The elves have moved to better worlds.

    The Book of Magic

    In the penumbra
    of a dusty attic
    there looms
    more than lies
    a forgotten green book.
    It bears as signature
    on the top of
    a pale rosette.

    How many
    succumbed to its
    dark secrets
    through their
    thirst of knowledge?

    Drastic!

    mantis/brick/dancing/periwinkle/feeder

    The fairy and the mantis

    Sailing over the
    sun scorched fields,
    dancing lightly, Periwinkle
    meets a lonely mantis
    sitting on a brick
    near an empty feeder.

    "What´s up, dear mantis?"
    asks the little fairy.

    "I´m just praying for rain,
neither too much, nor too little
    to revive the dry plantation
    and fill the feeder.
    Can you help?"

    "No, I can´t, dear mantis.
    I´ve lost my magic powers.
    Go on praying for rain,
neither too much, nor too little
to bring life to the dry landscape
    and fill the feeder."
    Without a word more
    Periwinkle flew away
