Next challenge: harvest, arch, letter, alive, barrel, tree

    Harvest

An old letter in an ark
    A barren tree, still alive
    in the garden,
    caressed archly by the wind.
    There is no barrel,
    not even overturned
    in this picture.

Next challenge: choir, mostly, emotion, climbing, substantially, staircase.

Challenge: choir, mostly, emotion, climbing, substantially, staircase

    as we ascend

    a staircase choir's voice ascends to heav'n
    radiating joy, substantially, as angels
minister to those overcome by emotion
in the perfect light that is Christ revealed

    climbing ev'r higher
we must lift others as well
    burdens mostly light

Did you notice that your poem has the form of a tree or a house?

Next: debut, tower, distance, answer, candle, ghost

    The house ghost

There was a sort of house ghost
    In the tower building
    where I lived once.

    It made its debut
    on a Carnival night
    romping about,
    luxuriating in noise,
    delighting in candle tricks!

    The riddle of its presence
    remained without answer and
    from the present distance
    the story hardly seems true
    any more.

New challenge: entropy, enactment, vampire, solidly, roots, aspire.

re: house - I hadn't noticed, lol. The form is Haibun... https://www.writersdigest.com/write-...ms-poetic-form popularized by Basho, also master of the Haiku. I've written more than a handful of them where I usually indent and then center the Haiku where formatting is possible - usually not so boxy.

    Enjoyed your poem

Challenge: entropy, enactment, vampire, solidly, roots, aspire

    entropy

vampire roots solidly entrenched in our culture
and zombies: entropic wannabe like vultures
waiting for the unwary who aspire nothing more
than a trip to the theater or local grocery store

in peace when the lights dim and an alien invasion
in ships we're familiar of the apocalyptic persuasion
during a pandemic with overtones of a world war
(not the reenactments of the atrocities of yore)...

but more inventive since our technology is just
so media centric: news on the telly we cannot trust
AI, AI, AI ! and society has become an unhinged
state with healthcare, rents, homelessness fringed

with political shenanigans and unrest that would
make a Machiavellian Borgia blush misunderstood...
still, we're trying to be environmentally green -
electric cars not many can afford- a smokescreen

of optimism as climates change and forests burn -
I long for a simpler time, when I was about to turn
five or so unaware of the adulterated mess in my
utopian world: vampires and zombies in shorter supply

Great syntheses of how one experiences these crazy times!

Next: knock, wild, list, grave, breeze, dignity

    On a grave note

    Divested of her light dignity,
    a breeze turned wild
    may become a tornado,
    knocking over
    everything
    in her way.

    In her wake,
    lists of
    destruction.

Next challenge: vintage, hamlet, forcefully, dim, labor, controversy.

Thank you Enjoyed your poem; lots of tornadic activity this side of the equator in our "Tornado Alley" lately. Back in the '80's I spent a brief stint for some tech training near Minneapolis and became acquainted with tornado warnings... luckily nothing came of them.

Challenge: vintage, hamlet, forcefully, dim, labor, controversy

    a rusting tractor

in a devastated country hamlet a rusting tractor
sits idly - its vintage form a stark contrast
to the task it performed as forcefully as the
many men it had replaced controversially way
back when - when the labor returned from the
war - the fortunate hale few now scarred with
dim haunted eyes now needing work themselves
to again scrabble a meek existence for the
families they were torn in a war never ending

Next: storm, time, captivate, composer, note, collage

    Tentative Homage to E T A Hoffmann

    Captivated by inner storms
    the wild composer captures
the errant notes of his music,
    engendering ghostly narratives,
    collages that traverse time
    bequeathing maiden, monsters
    and a cat.

Next challenge: journey, weird, bouquet, wonder, exhilaration, timeless.

Challenge: journey, weird, bouquet, wonder, exhilaration, timeless

    living in babylon

this journey of ours can be as heady
as a large bouquet of star jasmine
fresh picked off the vine in late spring -
we timeless beings existing in a world
as weird as the depths of imagination -
but not of the world - sharing a wondrous
    communion, a revelatory exhilaration
even when things aren't so rosy at all

Enjoyed! "his journey of ours can be as heady/as a large bouquet of star jasmine/fresh picked off the vine in late spring"

Accept challengeoetry, emotion, morning, wind, pastel, song

    Gone With the Wind...

Gone with the wind is this peregrine song
    the obvious attempt at poetry
    about a wintry morning
    a sky in pastel colors
    overshadowing the barren earth.

Gone with the wind is the sob,
the secret token of a deep emotion
    hidden and almost self forgotten
under a heavy layer of stone.

Next challenge: mirrors, water, leaf, underwhelming, indolent, rasping
