    Metaphors

    There certainly are
    spicy metaphors of beauty
    Venus with or without arms.
    exuberant flowers
    gorgeous birds.

    But nothing thrilling about
    the diminutive but cruel shrike.
    His colors shine modestly
    through the thick fog
    of representation.

Enjoyed very much - "the diminutive but cruel shrike. / His colors shine modestly / through the thick fog / of representation"

Challenge: interlude, radio, satellite, voice, history, pregnant

    fellow traveler: October 4, 1957

    a pregnant pause ensued
    an historic interlude
    when on radios and tellies
    worldwide a somber voice
    proclaimed a satellite
    innocently named Sputnik
    had been deployed hurtling
    unseen in orbit ratcheting
    up the Cold War tensions
    several frisson notches

Next: polarize, blissful, silence, methodic, starlight, passers-by

    En passant
Let´s not polarize opinions, rumors, shrill shrieks
    Let´s enjoy the blissful silence
    and appreciate the methodical starlight
that every night bathes the world.
    Aren´t we just passers-by?

Next: lines, thorough, keys, endow, waterfront, luminous.

Challenge: lines, thorough, keys, endow, waterfront, luminous

    music once played brightly

    ghostliness pervades
    a waterfront once graced
    thoroughly luminous
    with bright halogen lights
    endowed further at times
    with a full moon which
    harbored no monkeyshines
    whilst a jazz festival played
    much to the delight of
    music purist and tagalongs
    now gone but for memories

    An exotic view

    Dark poetry:
    Skeletons dance,
    swarm in the twilight,
    in joyous shakes
    then disappear again
    in the cupboard.

    forever sunshine

tolled every Sunday for services and
    occasions memorial was forever sunshine

    Tableau with obelisk

    nearby an improbable obelisk
    covered with hieroglyphics
    exhibits the image
    of an ibex.

Challenge: syntax, alarm, grandeur, farm, haltingly, simp

    perfecting the written word

    a simple syntax grandeur is
    desired in my written works
so as not to cause alarm
    from certain word police nits
    for I write most haltingly
    needing to parse with spell
checkers and their ilk so the
    end result upon each page
is replete and full of farm

    Favorite things

    Pizza Margherita at the corner,
    aligned pansies or buttercups,
    cats relaxing on windows sills
    and a secret bookshelf,
    as the innermost sanctum
    of treasures of fiction.

Challenge: airplane, head, ancient, clouds, evergreen, whilfully

    the wisdom of trees

    wizened ancient evergreens below
bear witness of the miracles of
modern flight as an airplane takes
    its head droning whilfully through
clouds above on a blustery day - they
    pondered and pronounced amongst
    themselves that sparrows and spotted
    owls and pileated woodpeckers are
far better suited for their boughs
