    Ourselves No Longer

    Ourselves No Longer

    We are no longer ourselves,
    never alone in a picture
    but surrounded always by people
whether we want it or not.

    Posing and smiling, looking happily
at the camera, waiting for the
click to be done, so we can step away
grab a moment's glance out the window.

Acting the part when we should be attending
    Loners Anonymous Meetings.
If we sat next to each other,
what truth would you bravely speak?

    It's too painful to imagine,
I see the ice in your blue eyes,
    pain frozen by time
    and as time passes
you walk further onto the tundra.

I'm sorry you've walked out so far,
but that distance is too cold for me alone.
Like a coward, I keep my pain close.
Maybe your wife can help you back
    before you fall through?

I know the feeling but it's a pity I didn't turn it into a beautiful poem like you did.

Try to live in harmony with people and nature
