On the Edge of the Page

    I fell in love
    with him
    sitting on the edge
    of a page,

    looking out
    into the darkness
    seeing a faint
    green light flickering.

    The cursor blinking
    seemed to wait
for the first plunk on the keyboard.

    When no finger emerged,
    My only response was
    visual silence.

    I delicately balanced
    on the margin
    centered by hope
and a belief in the impossible.

    Waiting, but nothing came.

    When it did come
it was a bounty of joy
    as if my beloved, stood
    unexpectedly in my doorway.

    But mostly it remained
    an unanswered craving,
I was not going to take flight.

    As the wordless days passed
    my charm no longer novel,
    I became just another
    expired amusement.

    Discarded...
    I fell off the page
    into an opiate dream.

    Flying through our words
    of magical memories and
    scenes of ambiguous beauty
until there were no more words.

    Finally I awoke
    with my mental acuity restored,
    no longer waiting.

    I was now able
to accept the poetry of our exchange
    rather than his love
    as good enough.

This a beautifully and skillfully crafted piece of gem, and I really adore it. Thanks for sharing
