like fallen leaves
memories collect
piled
on the fields
of my consciousness
rake
heaps of
disturbing memories to
the furthest reaches
of my mind
but like scattered debris
wind-whipped
on the plains of
my subconscious
they return
without deliverance
their accusing refrains
regrets of things done or not done
missed chances and squandered opportunities
haunt
a desperate thought
a foolish attempt
escape
perhaps
live my life again
then struck with
glaring truth
one cannot relive
parts of one’s life
one must relive it all
with new mistakes
new remorses
nagging
repeatedly
but stop and ponder
thankful there’s
only one life of
heartbreaks and
bad memories
live this one to the fullest
