    RIP John le Carré

Famous for his cold war espionage thrillers, David John Moore Cornwell (19 October 1931 – 12 December 2020), better known as John le Carré, died from pneumonia, aged 89.

"Spying was forced on me from birth much in the way, I suppose, that the sea was forced on CS Forester or India on Paul Scott. Out of the secret world I once knew, I have tried to make a theatre for the larger worlds we inhabit. First comes the imagining, then the search for the reality. Then back to the imagining, and to the desk where I’m sitting now."

"I seemed to have sensed also from an early age that some of my experiences as a reader would change me more as a person than would many an event in the world where I sat and read. "

He was mothers milk to me. My first read was "A Murder of Quality."

Got hooked straight away. He could tell such a good tale, weaving in and out constantly.

Who could not admire the character George Smiley? A subtle blend of an understated first class brain & an errant wife, constantly in the subconscious.

When the spy genre started, Le Carre was in his element. Brilliant writing in: "The Spy Who Came In From The Cold", "The Honourable Schoolboy," & "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy."

RIP as you regale The Almighty with mortal tales.
