    An Easter Poem

    Actually, it's more a Palm Sunday poem, from G.K.

    The Donkey
    BY G. K. CHESTERTON

    When fishes flew and forests walked
    And figs grew upon thorn,
    Some moment when the moon was blood
    Then surely I was born.

    With monstrous head and sickening cry
    And ears like errant wings,
    The devil’s walking parody
    On all four-footed things.

    The tattered outlaw of the earth,
    Of ancient crooked will;
    Starve, scourge, deride me: I am dumb,
    I keep my secret still.

    Fools! For I also had my hour;
    One far fierce hour and sweet:
    There was a shout about my ears,
    And palms before my feet.

    I simply love this poem, Ecurb, thanks for posting it. At one time I almost knew it by heart!
    "I seemed to have sensed also from an early age that some of my experiences as a reader would change me more as a person than would many an event in the world where I sat and read. "

    My wife had a donkey, named Eeyore of course, who was much beloved in our family. The iconic story of our Savior riding into Jerusalem on a donkey fulfilling prophesy is quite endearing. Thank you for sharing.
