I read the abriged version (Princess Alexandra Kropotkin translation) for the first time in 8th grade and have since re-read that and portions of the unabriged. It remains my favorite book of all time and through each reading it never lost any of its charm. After having read dostoyevsky, solzhenitsyn, and chekov, tolstoy remains my favorite. War and Peace is the best book ever written.
