Thread: What is the last movie you saw? and rate it.

I just watched the movie Baadassss. I enjoyed this movie considerably. It's about filmmaker Melvin Van Peebles's ordeals while creating a movie that addresses the frustration and anger felt by black America in the early seventies (it was produced and directed and stars his son Mario Van Peebles). This was one of the early examples of what became the blacksploitation movement in cinema. Very high on my recommendation list. 9/10

Having more spare time on my hands, I watched The Grudge last night with my younger brother. Knowing the Japanese legend behind the story, and hearing of it being a frightening movie, I rendered my expectations high only to let them fall. It had wonderful special effects, which probably scared most people (and, I admit, it had some creepy parts), but I thought the movie, otherwise, horrible. Whoever wrote the story had a semi-interesting plot, in my opinion, but direction-wise, many of the scenes seemed pieced together with little significance, constantly losing its audience. So, in retrospect: good writing, poor directing.
    My rating: 5.5/10.

Rize 1/10 unless you see this type of dancing as a form of art then you most likely won't enjoy this.

Late last night, I finally managed to watch Troy. I began the movie with fairly low expectations and ambitions, but felt very surprised as the film proceeded: the director, Wolfgang Peterson, actually maintained relatively near the plots of The Iliad by Homer and parts of The Æneid by Virgil - a rare quality in contemporary directors. I would especially like to applaud Achilles, Hector, King Agamemnon, King Priam, Helen, and Patroclus, but I would have liked to have seen more scenes of Paris, Aeneas (at the very end), and Menelaus. A few slightly important, but not critical, details seemed replaced by some mundane details, but what seems a movie made nowadays without some exaggerated romance ; yet overall, I felt astounded!
    My rating: 9/10.

Wit, with Emma Thompson (I think - saw it last week and am very bad with names). Wonderful use of language, good idea for a script.. but sometimes the camera work was a bit amateuristic..and not everything was credible (can you say it like that?).
    7.5/10

If Jennifer Connelly, Iron Maiden and crazy razorblade wielding chimpanzees are your thing check out Dario Argento's Phenomena. On the other hand if you're looking for a sensible flick without lots of gore stay away from this one.

Fango, I agree with you, Memento was pretty good. There are a few plot holes and the story seems confusing at points but the concept was very daring and rather well pulled off on the whole.

    "Way Down Town"
Canadian Comedy about 4 friends who work in an office building above a mall in Calgary. (in Calgary they have tunnels in the city so when its winter you don't have to go out side if you live in the city) any way they make this bet to see you can not go out side the longest and its just them starting to go insain it very funny but you have to have a bit of a sick sense of hummor and like dry comedy.

Dead Man, hmmm, watch this movie, it's hypnotising and the acting is great. Very weird but well worth it.

SIN CITY: 99,9% of a 100% Amazing, probably the best movie I have seen that was based on Graphic novels. Great cast (except brittany murphy, she can't act!) Bruce Willis was great and Jessica Alba is hot! Clive Owen, Roxanne Dawson, Josh Hartnett and Benicio Del Toro, all great!
