I would recommend starting with poetry. Buy yourself the 'Oxford Book of English Verse'. Don't try to get everything 'right'. Don't fuss at all cause it's gonna be a few months before you start...

I hate dictionaries. I prefer to absorb the meanings over time. Otherwise the definitions fall out of my head. I find them HARD WORK. Much harder work than forgetting about the words I don't get.
