Ancient Emptiness

You fell deeply down into my soul
Pilfering ancient emptiness
I ached for you like a dying man
And you covered me like darkness

This shallow world of upbeat bodies
Filled with the fresh feeling of youth
The gift of life, this anaesthetic
Exposure, brilliance of light.

Are we passing flesh, scars formed from wounds?
Stolen growth, cluttered memories?
I loved you and I loved you again
Under sunlight, twilight, moonlight.

I am an empty cave of limestone
That slowly fills with endless love
I am a woodland of dappled light
A heart cooled with tranquillity

Our love lives beyond subtle decay
But is there a place where our hearts
Will outlive us? Abandoned bodies
Lying serene beneath beech trees.
