Hi there,
i'm a newbie here, too. My name is Claudia and i'm from Austria, so German is my first language but i try to read as much as possible in english as i like the language. i don't have any preferences in genres but i really love Stephen King, Sophie Kinsella, Patricia Cornwell, Charles Dickens, Charles Bukowski and a lot more. Besides reading i love doing things with my dog, for example jogging and agility. You are welcome to critizise my english skills as i'm always glad to learn from native speakers. if there are any questions to my person/dog/reading/ please do not hesitate to ask =)

Aloha Everyone,
Just came across this website last night for the first time which has done nothing but feed my addiction. I was up until the wee hours and now have yet another list of "must have" books. Oh sure, I could go to my local library but I learned early on in life that libraries expect their books to be returned, and that's where we run into trouble. When I was just a wee little reader my mother was constantly dragging book after book after book out from under my bed which were 2-3, even 6 months overdue. Of course the library would send notices. "Please return our books" but I denied having ever checked them out. "I don't know what they're talking about, those are crazy people". I like to consider myself an honest person but have been known to lie, steal and cheat for a really good book.
As for the type of books I enjoy, I'm all over the map. My collection of books includes mostly non-fiction history or historical fiction but I read everything I can get my hands on. I've recently had to switch breakfast cereals because I've been over and over everything Frosted Flakes has to tell me.
I'm a coffee farmer in Kona, Hawaii. I have a 5 acre farm with about 4000 coffee trees, 40 or so Macadamia nut trees, many banana trees, some pineapple, papaya and avocado. It's a lot of work but I'm perpetually wired. I had always thought having a vineyard would be good but I doubt seriously I'd get any work done being drunk all day long. I came here from Chicago about 5 years ago and have been happily playing in the dirt ever since. I will be making a move back to the windy city in the next year as my mother is just now starting to miss me and would like me closer. I thought certainly I'd have at least 10 years before she noticed I was even gone but apparently not. For the time being however, I'm up to my ears in beans. Harvest season has just ended so I have a little more free time and what better to do with free time than read, which is how I found you, my new best friends! So it's very nice to meet you all!

Hello to everyone
Hello everyone.
I am new to anything like this. I watched "Lost in Austen" and it has given me a renewed interrest of how wonderful Pride and Prejudice is. I am green in many areas but by being a part of this forum I am looking forward to learning more and gaining more interrest!!. I love the old values of those times and just love the romance of it all. I love craft work and just starting to look at Macbeth, although I am also very green on the works of Shakespear. There is so much bad news in the world I like to escape to the lovely world of Jane Austen and her wonderful characters in her books. Looking forward to taking part in these forums, and hoping I can add some input also. :)

It's been awhile, so any old friends of Robinhood3000 or Miss Caroline (his Maid Marian), feel free to stop in and say hi....

Hi
I came across this site while doing a google search of E. P. Oppenheim, some of whose novel I have recently read. I am a middle aged man, not retired, an avid reader, and have a non scholarly interest in the period from the eighties through WWI: golden age detective fiction and thrillers, bolt action rifles, boy scouting, anarchism, terrorism, Saki, Stevenson, Kipling, Wodehouse (to make a start).

Well Hi!
Hello to all,
My name is Robin, but my screen name is Totoro because I love the Japanese film: My neighbor Totoro. (Its a classic watch it if you haven't!)
Lets see....
I love film and anything to do with it, photography, etc. I also love art. I paint and draw. My favorite artist is Salvador Dali. His paintings always make me think about things on a deeper level which is why I love his work so much.
I also love to read, and will read basically anything I get my hands on, including big textbooks and encyclopedias that no one else cares about.
I can't honestly say I have a favorite book above all the others, because there are just too many to like. But some of my favorites include:
-A Scanner Darkly by Phillip K Dick
-1984 by George Orwell
-To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
-The Magicians Nephew by CS Lewis
-Anything by Andrew Lang or the Grimm Brothers.
-Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson
I also have a fondness for children's literature. One in particular is
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom
by Bill Martin Jr. and John Archambault
And another beloved pastime is archery. :D

I just joined this network a few minutes ago. I got into fiction recently after having only been interested in non-fiction for most of my life. I especially enjoy Anton Chekhov and George Orwell. Reading "The Lady and the Dog" by Chekhov convinced me that there is a mysterious value to reading fiction that I had never known existed. I have a blog about topics that interest me and I'd like to make the URL my signature in order to hopefully drive some traffic there. Can anyone tell me how to make add a signature to my posts?

Hello everyone,
I have literally just joined this forum after a 'Yahoo' search and liked the look of it. I have been an avid reader for as long as I can remember and am prepared to give most genres a try. Some of the books that I have recently read are:
'Keeping the World Away' by Margaret Forster
'The Secret River' by Kate Grenville
'The Lieutenant' by Kate Grenville
'Engleby' by Sebastian Faulks
'Restless' by William Boyd
As well as reading I also enjoy languages, theatre, music and walking.
I'm very much looking forward to meeting some of you around the forum.:)
