I agree again, all in all Slumdog is worthy of recommendation to friends and family (after I told them about it my parents saw it and were absolutely delighted). If you ask me, though, the Oscar sweeping was all politics, even more so than usually. And I didn't know Button's director was the one behing 'Se7en'! That's an amazing movie, and it had a great impact on me. Not a flaw that I can remember in that film, and what a great ensemble. Spacey, like Penn, is an actor who guarantees quality, am yet to be let down by him. I say, you have a terrific taste, (i.e. similar to mine ), and I'd be very interested to know your favourite movies, or your latest pleasant surprises. In my case, two of my favourite movies of all time are 'Mulholland Dr.' and 'Der Himmel über Berlin' ('Wings of Desire'). I'm also fond of silent movies, and the latest treasure I've found was Buster Keaton's 1924 stunning 45-minute-long 'Sherlock Jr'; although it's a comedy it has incredible special effects and stunts (no stuntman involved!). In case you're into that genre here's the movie: http://www.archive.org/details/SherlockJr Can't tell you how glad I am to have found someone to talk with about films!
