Quasimodo... thanks. I was just drawing a blank and wasn't up to searching through my PMs. You're not missing much on the forum... as you probably know. I ended up posting a rather sarcastic comment on one of the threads asking about Byron expressing some shock that anyone still talks about literature here. The art site I used to frequent isn't doing much better. I probably spend more time on a couple of music sites than anywhere else. Good hearing from you.

Controversial subjects that have nothing to do with literature have always been a problem on Lit Net... the minute I saw that a "Serious Discussion" thread opened up for just those discussions that were supposed to be against the rules I knew that was going to be the end of Lit Net. I'm willing to bet that half the people on lit net don't even discuss literature. You don't see me on the forums any more.

Just came across this post to Mutatis. Too bad you don't post more. I miss our discussion with JBI, JCamilo, Mortal Terror and Ron (the poetry guy... what was his moniker again?) on Wallace Stevens or T.S. Eliot. You are right that the great lit discussions are few and far between. I was just involved in a knock-down debate with one member who suggested that my embrace of "high art" vs pop culture was something to be denigrated as "elitist"... at a literature site, no less.

Hey, Virgil. Sorry about the late response. Shows how much I come on here I guess.

I'm not particularly interested in politics after law school. I think I'm a bit too cynical about the political process in general to even believe that I could make a difference. I am interested in working at a big NYC firm right out of law school, and then hopefully moving to London eventually to work as a lawyer. Not sure if this will happen or not, but working at a big law firm in NYC is realistic, since that is the biggest legal market in the country.

I had power outages here in DC, but nothing too bad like others suffered. My girlfriend's parents didn't have power for at least 5 days, I'd say. I'm curious about your summer reading plans. Do you have a link?

I'm not reading anything too serious until after I take my LSAT. I just finished How to Watch the Olympics, and now I've just begun The Ivey Guide to Law School Admissions. Shows where my heads at, I suppose.

For those of us who were regulars here on Lit Net many years ago and remember Janine, I'm saddened to report that on November 27th, 2018, our dear friend passed away. She was 68 years old. Eternal rest grant unto Janine, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace.

Matthew and Shakespeare

by Virgil on 12-18-2017 at 10:01 PM
Let me copy this over from my personal blog. Matthew is my son and you can go back into my past blogs to learn more about him and our adoption. Anyway he's eight years old now. This happened the other day.

OK, I was reading a Shakespeare play (Henry VI, Part 1) out of my big complete volume containing all of Shakespeare’s plays and poetry. The binding is literally at least six inches thick, and is about eight by ten in dimension. It’s a big book.

Matthew sees

New Family Member: Tiger

by Virgil on 05-24-2015 at 09:25 PM
Those that know me here know that my wife and I have been dog people all our lives, but last week Matthew and I stumbled upon a little kitten beside our house and of course found him irresistible. We now have a kitten to add to our rambunctious dog and hyperactive son. I posted a summary on my personal blog, but here are the first two paragraphs:

Of course this was completely unplanned. Thursday, May 14th (I date it for posterity’s sake) after dinner at about half past six Matthew

My 2014 Reads

by Virgil on 01-31-2015 at 10:38 PM
Hi all

I haven't been on in a while. I think I last mentioned we had a new pup in the family, and she has been a handful. I don't remember my other pups driving us crazy like this one. So since my wife was with her all day, I had to give up part of my evenings to releave her and stay with the dog. Evenings after work is my usual computer time, and there was no way this pooch was going to let me be.

Then just after Christmas my computer went bonkers and after looking

A New Addition to the Family

by Virgil on 10-07-2014 at 08:57 PM
Well, we've enlarged our family with a new four legged member, a black Labrador Retriever pup. She's special, and just as cute as can be. I can't remember how to upload pictures here on Lit Net, so if you're interested, come by my Ashes blog to see:

And actually you can see the breeder's litter of pups at an earlier post, posted before we were able to select one.
