Hi... thanks for voting in the 2015 Annual Short Story Competition finals.
I submitted one of my stories "Happy Endings" into the contest.

Critiques here on litnet have always been greatly helpful and helped me improve a lot. As you have already read the story, I was wondering if you could share your thoughts on the story on this thread->

    Yo Dude,
I stopped by. Seems to be short on words now. Miss this old place , or maybe the times. More later.

Yeah, I asked my son to take Stella for obedience training also. He wasn't happy about it, but I think it has helped. She loves it. Actually, she probably loves the treats. She's gotten to the point where she's much quieter in the evenings. I could take her rambunctiousness in the mornings; I was less happy about it at night.

Hi Virgil. Stella is a Border Collie/Australian shepherd mix. She has a smooth coat. She loves to chase and bring back plastic water bottles, and climb in my lap and chew them while I gently pretend to pull it away from her. She loves to chase a ball around the living room. She adores the dog park and doggie day care (my son and I paid for 10 days-so expensive, but helpful when we have bad weather). Somebody suggested fostering puppies because they entertain each other, but unfortunately we really don't have room for that. Stella is black and white and loved all over. How's Rosie doing? And Matthew?

I'm glad you are doing well! I'm sure your puppy will in due time, also. My son, a young adult who still resides with me, got a puppy, too. It was pretty rough for awhile there, but, while still playful, she is finally able to be quiet at times. She would like to chase our cats, if I'd let her.

Hey, Virgil. Haven't forgotten you; I'll visit your blog again soon. How's your family? You?

Thanks for your support. At the moment I'll just hope that things won't become that bad for me. I think I astonished the optician that I still walked around without bumping into things (I couldn't read the biggest letter in the Snellen chart without squinting ). I'll just get new glasses now and see how much it progresses. There is still time to have fun with painful hard contact lenses that fall out and things. We'll see how that goes. And there's still lots of time to worry about that problem later. They can't cure it, I won't die from it (touch wood), I'll just live with it. There are worse things in life. And if I become partially sighted I can request a free rail pass.

For those of us who were regulars here on Lit Net many years ago and remember Janine, I'm saddened to report that on November 27th, 2018, our dear friend passed away. She was 68 years old. Eternal rest grant unto Janine, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace.

Matthew and Shakespeare

by Virgil on 12-18-2017 at 10:01 PM
Let me copy this over from my personal blog. Matthew is my son and you can go back into my past blogs to learn more about him and our adoption. Anyway he's eight years old now. This happened the other day.

OK, I was reading a Shakespeare play (Henry VI, Part 1) out of my big complete volume containing all of Shakespeare’s plays and poetry. The binding is literally at least six inches thick, and is about eight by ten in dimension. It’s a big book.

New Family Member: Tiger

by Virgil on 05-24-2015 at 09:25 PM
Those that know me here know that my wife and I have been dog people all our lives, but last week Matthew and I stumbled upon a little kitten beside our house and of course found him irresistible. We now have a kitten to add to our rambunctious dog and hyperactive son. I posted a summary on my personal blog, but here are the first two paragraphs:

Of course this was completely unplanned. Thursday, May 14th (I date it for posterity’s sake) after dinner at about half past six Matthew

My 2014 Reads

by Virgil on 01-31-2015 at 10:38 PM
Hi all

I haven't been on in a while. I think I last mentioned we had a new pup in the family, and she has been a handful. I don't remember my other pups driving us crazy like this one. So since my wife was with her all day, I had to give up part of my evenings to releave her and stay with the dog. Evenings after work is my usual computer time, and there was no way this pooch was going to let me be.

Then just after Christmas my computer went bonkers and after looking

A New Addition to the Family

by Virgil on 10-07-2014 at 08:57 PM
Well, we've enlarged our family with a new four legged member, a black Labrador Retriever pup. She's special, and just as cute as can be. I can't remember how to upload pictures here on Lit Net, so if you're interested, come by my Ashes blog to see:

And actually you can see the breeder's litter of pups at an earlier post, posted before we were able to select one.
