I pulled it myself, just to be safe.

But, yes, I agree. You are one of the members I had in mind when I mentioned people who don't post here any longer. You, JBI, stlukes (who still pops in every now and then, but not as much), Lokesenna, etc. When you guys would get going on a literature discussion I usually wouldn't participate much, bug mostly because I would just sit back, read, and learn. I don't get that much anymore. The serious discussions forum can be fun, but when it comes to literature and art, this forum is in a huge slump. Just look at the forum book club. It's pretty much completely dead. If you look up conversations from years past, there's a huge difference.

So, I guess it's not that I have a problem with controversial subjects. I like them. The double standards on what is and isn't allowed now hasn't gotten ridiculous. I wish we could have those and literary discussions, but I guess one can't have cake and eat it, too.

Thanks for asking. Yes, Blackwood is my favourite. But, that changes with my moods. What are into ?

Hey there. So I haven't been on here in FOREVER (apparently over 6 months), but I decided to check back in, and I saw that you had written on my wall. I read your blog post about what you read in 2011. Pretty great stuff. I added a few books to my list based on what you reviewed. (Silence is probably the key one.)

I haven't had much time to read at all unfortunately since starting my new job as a paralegal at a top DC law firm. It is a lot of hours, and in my off time I'm now studying to take the LSAT in hopes of getting into as good of a law school as possible (I'm hoping Harvard, Chicago, Columbia, NYU, U Penn, or Cornell).

So unfortunately I haven't really been able to read much other than very light books and a lot of magazines.

Hope you are doing well. Keep up the reading!

Heeeey Virgil! It's been a long time - I haven't been around for so many months! University life really kept me busy - moved to another city, 300 km from home, I'm living on my own, cooking, learning and doing everything by myself. You can imagine what kind of change this was! I'm studying English and Norwegian in Cluj-Napoca in Romania (just in case you want to google a bit this amazing city in which i'll be living for at least two years from now on). I just saw your Christmas card - such a shame I haven't been on the forum for so long! It was a huge surprise, thank you immensely! You haven't forgotten me - thank you so much, I'm awfully glad.
But enough about myself. How are you and how is your family? How's your great kid doing? We really need to catch up a bit. I'll be around! Cheers!

Hi Virgil--Thought I'd check back around these parts after being away for awhile. Glad to see it looks like you're back to haunting litnet again too. How's the family?

Hi Virgil, I'm so sorry about the T.S. Eliot article and that it's been so long that I've had it without responding to it. I finished my "30 Poems in 30 Days" thread and shortly after I broke my hip! (The cliché of the old lady w. the broken hip is yer ole auntie.) I'll catch up on my belated projects as I recuperate.

My best to you and your lovely family.

For those of us who were regulars here on Lit Net many years ago and remember Janine, I'm saddened to report that on November 27th, 2018, our dear friend passed away. She was 68 years old. Eternal rest grant unto Janine, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace.

Matthew and Shakespeare

by Virgil on 12-18-2017 at 10:01 PM
Let me copy this over from my personal blog. Matthew is my son and you can go back into my past blogs to learn more about him and our adoption. Anyway he's eight years old now. This happened the other day.

OK, I was reading a Shakespeare play (Henry VI, Part 1) out of my big complete volume containing all of Shakespeare’s plays and poetry. The binding is literally at least six inches thick, and is about eight by ten in dimension. It’s a big book.

New Family Member: Tiger

by Virgil on 05-24-2015 at 09:25 PM
Those that know me here know that my wife and I have been dog people all our lives, but last week Matthew and I stumbled upon a little kitten beside our house and of course found him irresistible. We now have a kitten to add to our rambunctious dog and hyperactive son. I posted a summary on my personal blog, but here are the first two paragraphs:

Of course this was completely unplanned. Thursday, May 14th (I date it for posterity’s sake) after dinner at about half past six Matthew

My 2014 Reads

by Virgil on 01-31-2015 at 10:38 PM
Hi all

I haven't been on in a while. I think I last mentioned we had a new pup in the family, and she has been a handful. I don't remember my other pups driving us crazy like this one. So since my wife was with her all day, I had to give up part of my evenings to releave her and stay with the dog. Evenings after work is my usual computer time, and there was no way this pooch was going to let me be.

Then just after Christmas my computer went bonkers and after looking

A New Addition to the Family

by Virgil on 10-07-2014 at 08:57 PM
Well, we've enlarged our family with a new four legged member, a black Labrador Retriever pup. She's special, and just as cute as can be. I can't remember how to upload pictures here on Lit Net, so if you're interested, come by my Ashes blog to see:

http://ashesfromburntroses.blogspot....day-rosie.html

And actually you can see the breeder's litter of pups at an earlier post, posted before we were able to select one.
