I'm out of school. School never really took flight for me. Actually it never got off the runway. To tell the truth, it exploded in the hanger . (From a comic strip somewhere.)

I work in I.T. now, for a commercial satellite company. I just kind of fell into it ... I've been promoted a few times and now I'm kind of stuck! I have fantasies about getting away, but mercifully they pass quickly ... Someday I'll need to pull a Virgil and enroll in night school.

Thanks for suggesting Ferlinghetti, I really like the man's stuff! But I'm not sure if his Dragon poem about China and my poem which also concerns China have a lot of parallels.
Just read 'Populist Manifesto No. 1' and ' The World is a Beautiful Place'. Wow!

Verg, Thanx for the note. The focus and precedent are, in both cases " the dead ". It may seem a little nebulous to you but it is about my mother. She was a little nebulous herself. I just added it to my blog because I am thinking of her today. She and I spent many hours together in the forest of no trees. I am not trying to be overly mysterious, but Bar(Bar22do) asked me for it, so I put it here. It is something that I awoke to one morning, and for the past few months I have been saving some of this maddness.

Just trying to get away from work for a minute (but not too far away, I'm still at the computer ). How are things?

Work work and more work. I have tried four times to finish up the current blog series and have pretty much spent the last two days sleeping after 10 days in a row--got tagged for the weekend for work since my fellow employees have lives and don;t want to step up. But thanks for thinking about me. Things will get better but it won't be in December.

My reaction paralleled yours regarding the hobo camps. I was in Columbus, OH, and there were so many of them. My friend says people call the cops and they make them leave camp and disperse again. It was quite depressing

part 2...I heard you say you thought of buying a Kindle. Lynne has one; but she ends up buying books, too. Her hubby uses the Kindle more so and for magazines and newspapers. I would rather have an Ipod Touch. I have been looking at them and wondered if I could swing one for my Christmas gift (to myself). It's the lowest I have seen it now on Amazon and I still have some bucks stashed from last Christmas. For the 32GB it is running $269. That's amazing. I think you can read books on that as well. You should check it out. Not sure how long that price will hold.

Did you watch it all the way through yet? I like to watch them a couple of times. Wish I could copy it for you. Did you think it was good? I thought it was engaging; I like the way the king talks to the audience. I have another rendetion of that Lawrence play if you would like to see that one, too. The husband is easier to understand. I think it's quite good. I have "Rocking Horse Winner", too, directed by John Mills and it's excellent. I like these plays on DVD's. You can find a lot of them at Kultur site and then find them on Amazon which is cheaper.

I know you are flag waver; that is why I said it!

It's pretty amazing how the pain just abated and departed. I slept better last night, too. For four days I thought I was dying. The pain was pretty intense. I am just glad it is gone for now.

For those of us who were regulars here on Lit Net many years ago and remember Janine, I'm saddened to report that on November 27th, 2018, our dear friend passed away. She was 68 years old. Eternal rest grant unto Janine, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace.

Matthew and Shakespeare

by Virgil on 12-18-2017 at 10:01 PM
Let me copy this over from my personal blog. Matthew is my son and you can go back into my past blogs to learn more about him and our adoption. Anyway he's eight years old now. This happened the other day.

OK, I was reading a Shakespeare play (Henry VI, Part 1) out of my big complete volume containing all of Shakespeare’s plays and poetry. The binding is literally at least six inches thick, and is about eight by ten in dimension. It’s a big book.

Matthew sees

New Family Member: Tiger

by Virgil on 05-24-2015 at 09:25 PM
Those that know me here know that my wife and I have been dog people all our lives, but last week Matthew and I stumbled upon a little kitten beside our house and of course found him irresistible. We now have a kitten to add to our rambunctious dog and hyperactive son. I posted a summary on my personal blog, but here are the first two paragraphs:

Of course this was completely unplanned. Thursday, May 14th (I date it for posterity’s sake) after dinner at about half past six Matthew

My 2014 Reads

by Virgil on 01-31-2015 at 10:38 PM
Hi all

I haven't been on in a while. I think I last mentioned we had a new pup in the family, and she has been a handful. I don't remember my other pups driving us crazy like this one. So since my wife was with her all day, I had to give up part of my evenings to releave her and stay with the dog. Evenings after work is my usual computer time, and there was no way this pooch was going to let me be.

Then just after Christmas my computer went bonkers and after looking

A New Addition to the Family

by Virgil on 10-07-2014 at 08:57 PM
Well, we've enlarged our family with a new four legged member, a black Labrador Retriever pup. She's special, and just as cute as can be. I can't remember how to upload pictures here on Lit Net, so if you're interested, come by my Ashes blog to see:

http://ashesfromburntroses.blogspot....day-rosie.html

And actually you can see the breeder's litter of pups at an earlier post, posted before we were able to select one.
