Hi. I noticed you voted in the Autumn Poetry contest. If you get a chance, I would like your comments to my poem in the contest. I opened it for discussion in my blog here: http://www.online-literature.com/forums/blog.php?b=9173

(start from the bottom post..) aaaand lastly...

The number 8 is used in the form and in the verses -- "two legs, two grasping hands, two searching eyes, one pregnant mind, one voice"= eight --for a variety of reasons: the number itself resembles the 'infinity' symbol, because the eighth day has always been the day of rebirth in many religions in Wicca, there are eight sabbats, and personally, because my best friend calls me 'Eight' because it used to help her remember how to spell my name, the 'e' before the 'i' and then 'g', 'h'. Except for the two four-lined stanzas (which add up to eight), all the other stanzas consist of eight lines. Next to "I am a Myth", "Story-spinner has..." it's one of my favorites to go back to and look at as a sort of guide: "Remember this, remember you're scared to write-- overcome it."

    cont...

And authors, like spiders, are desperately needed in the world (because stories are a necessity to life), and terribly over-looked. I wanted the image between the spider and the author to constantly shift between each other (and I hoped it worked), as authors so frequently lapse between reality and fantasy. I guess, in that aspect, I wanted the poem to be a bit ambiguous in nature.

    Read it, reply is sent!

As for "story-spinner has..." -- You pretty much nailed it like no one else has.

But you're right, it is exactly so. It's about story-tellers (when I wrote it, my favorites were in my head -- Neil Gaiman, George R.R. Martin, J.R.R. Tolkien, etc.), and it's about how stories are born within aspiring authors from books - or anyone, for that matter - and so the cycle continues. I guess I have a strange fascination with authors, with how they work, with how they see the world. For some reason, I know a lot of spider mythology, and it seemed so appropriate to use them considering how spiders in mythology are always the creators, the story-tellers...
