Thanks for the welcome. Well, yes, I do live in Singapore. Chinese isn't the main language over here. While there are many Chinese here (75% of the population in fact), English is still the main language for communication. Furthermore, our national language is Malay (though most people don't speak the language). If you'd like to know more about Singapore, I'd gladly fill you in on my country. I'm a Chinese myself, so yes, I do speak Mandarin (we've got to learn Mother Tongue in school). I learn Japanese too, if you're talking about languages with a different alphabet. Hahaa. And well, it does take a bit of skill to be effectively bilingual, yes. Hahaa. I'm kind of proud about that. Chinese is a really beautiful language, in my opinion.
hi, welcome to online lit - though i'm not here long enough myself to be making ceremonious introductions! can i ask you, do you live in singapore? - that's a place i don't know enough about. is chinese the main language? do you study one of those languages that have a different alphabet? i never have, but want to learn chinese - it would seem extraordinary to be able to read, write, and think in something that appears so different.
yes, that's me, your friendly Moderator 💚
