I did enjoy it, and he had, as usual, a lot of great things to say. But for the first time, I found myself getting kind of irritated. "My negative demands were far more insistent than my positive ones--" what?? and he kept on saying that over and again. Made me feel like a bit of a child. Although that is probably because I'd just finished reading the Iliad. But that was my only quibble. He really is a memorable writer! And all the things he'd said about Joy/longing I definitely understood. In fact, as I was reading it I found myself wondering whether or not he read any poetry by W.B. Yeats because Yeats kind of talked about the same thing in his poem (my favorite poem of all time) "To the Rose Upon the Rood of Time." It's on this site if you want it. (Incidentally, there's also a subforum for MacDonald too.) And of course, he answered it...

What did you think of Gaudy Night? Isn't it fantabulous?? I found a movie of it in the library and hope to watch it very soon...
stray thought: do you want to see if we can arrange something so we can watch it together? Maybe Lady Marian would care to join too, although I'm not sure if she's familiar with DLS beyond what I told her...

Hey! At first, I wasn't quite sure who you are, but I when I saw your friends list, I knew! ---------------------------------> This is my lame attempt at a joke.

General Chat's fun, General Lit is general, surprisingly . Those are the two main subforums I visit, but there's lots of good stuff in the different authors sections. The Religious and Philosophy sections are interesting, but get pretty heated, so unless you like to debate...also try out the blogs. I have one .
