Well, yes; Russian is a Slavic language so it makes it bit easier, although grammar is quite complicated. It's 10 times heavier then English grammar.
Wouldn't break make things even worse? Try to read books on Slovenian, some things and phrases will become more comon and usual to you.

I know how you feel - same is with my Russian classes. Slovenian is funny - they can understand Croatian, but Croats can't understand Slovenians...

Thank you for the friend request. Yes there are a large number of people of Italian heritage in the US. Ah, you do live in a beautiful part of the world. Actually all of Italy is beautiful, but those mountains in that northeast are especially beautiful. I've only been to Venice in the northeast, not quite that far up, but my brother was an exchange student with the University in Trento, which is not far from you I would assume. I hope you stay with lit net and if you have any questions about anything, feel free to ask me.
