Great I hope you'll like the books you have ordered. I lately realised that I have eight of his books on my book shelf and I haven't read only two of them so far, which makes Auster one of the authors I've read so many books written by him. May be I've read so much only of Steinbeck's.
I think Auster's books are great for discussion because they are easy to read and in the same time extremely deep when it comes to meaning and possibilities for interpretations. At first I didn't wanted to participate in the thriller discussion this month, but after I saw the trilogy in the list of the nominations, I quickly changed my mind and I voted. It's great to discuss it like this, all these opinions give me various points of view and I can see aspects of the work I myself have missed. I hope we will be able to do a discussion on another book written by him later.

Hi, Piage I hope you don't mind adding you to my friends. Being Paul Auster's fan is a reason enough for me

Hi Paige I think it's because I aligned it to the right instead of the left. If you look at the signature the little line only appears on the left side. I didn't put any extra spaces in or anything. If you use the BBcode {RIGHT} (using the correct brackets, of course!) then this will align your signature to the right. Hope that helps!

It sure is a great community. I really love it. I have posted more in the last few weeks then ever. I tend to like to see what others are saying but I am starting to feel at home here now so I am getting a little more involved.

Welcome Paige. I see you're relatively new. Thanks for those links, and judging by your profile you will enjoy lit net. And if you've been a librarian for fifteen years, then you must be closer to my age than not. Always good to have another over thirty on board.

Auster, OCD

by Paige19 on 01-01-2009 at 10:28 PM
So, it is to be the Auster for the January forum read. I thought I was happy, since the Aquin was less appealing once I'd got a look at it, but yesterday I picked up The Dark Man at the local library (that's the only Auster they had at my branch) and read it and, while I don't object to the noir-ish feel of the prose, I was alarmed to find that there were several incidents in the book that I can only describe as very disturbing. Someone was drawn and quartered. Someone was beaten to death by terrorists.
