Here were we wretched creatures of men making for each other's throats, and outraging the good earth which God had made so fair a habitation [Prester John - John Buchan].

Death
Looking out with non- seeing eyes
That was there a time ago
Concealing life that life contained
No longer there but all too see
Love no longer can it give
But exists till memories are no more
They are many and we are few
We become them but they never us
Our future is theirs and theirs is ours
The thought of it chills our bones
And fear clouds our thoughts
Seasons no longer touch the flesh

Disfigured forms scar the earth’s floor
None will be seen till the spring thaw
Showing evidence of another bloody war
Snow stained carnage yet again

Ice so lightly stained in pink
Tainted water unfit to drink
And snow covered in life’s ink
Even more into depravity we sink
Blanket

They devour me, and tear me apart
No part of my sleep is untouched
Because my sleep is void and without rest
No matter where I hide
They are there, there in every corner of my mind

Earth’s Pain
One morning the earth found me crying.
She said to me ‘Why do you weep?’
‘Earth’ I replied ‘I’m in such pain’.
‘Where is your pain?’ she asked of me,
‘For I can not see any injuries’
I said ‘ no earth, my pain cannot be seen’
‘It is a pain from deep within my soul’
Earth said ‘Tell me, what ails you’
And I did…
‘This morning I saw a million graves
Then a million more
I saw wives without husbands
