Hi Neely- I just watched Manhattan and A Midsummer's Night Sex Comedy. I think you have to be in your thirties to really appreciate Woody Allen's humor and neurotic characters. Anyway, I have a few more to watch, but am really enjoying this. I can see why you were on your Woody Allen kick. Be well, jersea

Yes... I'm enjoying my summer break... spending a lot of time in the studio painting.

As for the focus on opera DVDs... I'm not planning on avoiding any further opera CD purchases, but I'm finding that I can get a grasp of the opera as a whole... and certainly come to appreciate it more rapidly... after watching the drama as opposed to just listening to the music and following along with the librettos.

Loved the typical Woody Allen irony. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll add it to my Netflix list.

Neely- I just saw Vicky Cristina Barcelona and quite enjoyed it. Have you seen this one?

    Hello!

You find me well. My husband pulled a face just then... Asking about - what? - German lager? You must be well gone!

He and I wouldn't know, as we try to avoid that stuff. Beck's is a famous one, but it's really no good. Try some Weizenbier (wheat beer) and maybe Malz (dark beer, a bit like Chimay, but not so nice).
The problem with German beer is that it is subject to the Reinheitsgebot (Purity Law) that only allows certain ingredients to be in beer. So, essentially, there is very small variation and everything really tastes the same although there is another label on it.
Kölsch is another quite popular one in Nordrhein Westfalen, but I don't think it's available outside Germany.

If you have any possibility try the Czech one: Budvar or any Czech lager. They've got a nice taste even Stella can't really beat.
And Okocim. That has got a nice beery taste.
They are both a bit similar to Australian Foster's which you may have tasted.

    Have a nice time.

Are you reading the Metamorphoses, and if so, would you mind dropping by the thread? I know that it got sidelined, as can happen here. Trying to get it refocused. I would like to have some kind of coherent discussion while reading the myths.

  9. Yes maybe the trouble with Greece will set the ball rolling on the Euro front.

In terms of Italy that's one of the reasons I don't want to go yet, I can't see that a full trip would work well with a 6 and 8 year old, would be better at a later stage, with or without the wife. Besides I want to pay off the mortgage first, or a chunk of it.

I always listen to and follow the sound advice government bodies. If I'm drinking a Belgian ale or a strong British bottle beer naturally I'll throw the rest of it down the sink upon reaching my 1/2 pint allowance.

Millions were spent on a roof cover for the centre court and it has already proven its worth.
I have to say that Italy is best taken in without the encumbrance of wife and children but, then again, that might be said of almost anywhere.
Italy is truly spectacular and I long for the break up of the bland hotch potch of European unity. That horror of horrors, a mini US, with the jettisoning of our individual characters that it implies, is something best avoided, even though technology is shrinking the world at a spectacular rate; leading to a merger of the continents in what has become known as globalisation.

I heard today on the radio that the the British Medical Council is recommending 1/2 pint of beer per day or one glass of wine, as the alcohol intake per person, for the maintenance of a healthy lifestyle. I hope you have taken notice.
