I have been feeling depressed and drained, too; but think it's from that sinus thing and now the sciatica...also in two weeks they start our construction; I requested they work on the outside first but maybe they will want to work on all at once, in which case it will be beyond difficult. On top of all these stresses, my mother fell down again - she has a long history of falling down - long story. This is the second time she fell in the shower after she turned the water off....

How was the route-canal? I have had them and they went fine and one I was in dire pain with. Hope that last is not the case for you. I have had bad luck this year so far with my teeth. One had to be pulled; another broke, and now another lost it's crown...that tooth is questionable because last time I was to the dental clinic they said I had to get it pulled as well and get a plate. Ugh I hate the idea of that. The insurance will no longer pay for implants or bridges...well on that side it might qualify for a bridge but I doubt it. It's my main chewing side, too so it hasn't been easy to eat lately. Of course I didn't lose any weight - darn! haha

I am not so bad a junk eatter. I eat pretty good but I like ice-cream and not the cheap stuff or lowfat. I like Ben and Jerry's. Of course, they deal with natural farmers who don't give their cows that growth hormone. I mostly want to join the gym to get into better shape and trim down would be nice too. I feel I am weak and it will help my fibromyalgia and other pain. The nurse practioner wants me to first go to physical therapy. I agree that is the smart thing to do. They know exactly what exercises to do for my particular type of stenosis/sciatica pain.

Yes, that is so true. They are just always so darn busy. I often feel very left behind and don't even mention my mother. I sometimes can't understand my son's attitude now to his grandmother who he was so close to when younger. I have been sick and still am and so I can't be around Brooke yet. Interesting that you said you are taking steroids for your sinus'. I have some here given to me for a rash and then I didn't take them. The nurse practioner told me I could take them now for my sciatica. I wonder if they would help my sinus infection. Is what you have an infection?

Guess what? I had harsh words with my son over the phone and ever since then he has been calling me and treating me more decently. Today to my surprise they sent me flowers for my belated birthday. They are lovely and they meant the world to me. The note said we will get together soon when you are all well to go out for your birthday to eat and get ice-cream. Brooke and I will love that!

So my good friend, how are you doing? I hope you have stayed well. How did you 'busy' spring break go?

Hi qim, I am ok but not completely better and get this, I have had a severe attack of sciatica, not in my usual leg but the opposite one - my right leg which makes it difficult seeing I drive with that leg. I saw the nurse practioner at my drs and she got it ok'd to send me back to physical therapy. I haven't been for about 6 yrs but I know it is good and will get me back on track. I want to join a gym when I get all my ailments straightened around including my toe operation. There is a gym not far from here which opened and is very reasonable - just 20 a month. I hope it's still that cheap. They kept sending me ads in the mail and two of my friends go there and like it very much - one lost a lot of weight. I am hoping for some weight loss as well.

I'm doing well. Having some difficulty balancing my life--it is terrible to have so many responsibilities and interests. But I'm hopeful that a few obstacles in my life might get sorted out after all--but in any case, I feel better about it all in general. I hope you have a well-rested weekend. Always look forward to hearing from you, but take care of yourself first.

Oh! It's so sweet of you Qimi, I'll upload some of my pictures for you and I'm sure you won't be jealous once you have seen them.

    Hello Qimi.
I'm finally home for good! I began the 950 mile journey on Feb 27th and made it home on the 28th. There were a few architectural and sentimental stops along the way.
I noticed your postings regarding your interest in watercolor painting. Watercolor is a pasion of mine, although my approach tends to be more "rigid"? not so free flowing.
I look forawrd to seeing some of your handiwork.
BTW - I made one last visit to the Art Institute in Chicago to see John Marin's watercolors currently on exhibit.

Heretic, rebel, a thing to flout

by qimissung on 12-15-2012 at 02:13 AM
I live in the United States of America, and we had another school shooting today. With horror I listened to the news reports that a gunman had gone into an elementary school and killed 27 people, 20 of them “children between the ages of 5 and 10.” And I listened tiredly and wearily to the usual rhetoric of the newscast without end as they recounted the “worst school shooting in an elementary school.”
I guess they are doing the best they can, but you simply can’t put a qualifier or adjective

In Memoriam

by qimissung on 04-03-2012 at 11:05 PM
One of my former students-he graduated last year-was shot and killed last night around 10 o'clock.

He had just finished playing a game of basketball and was sitting in a car on a dark street, with his cousin. They were waiting for his cousin's ride when another car drove up. It was someone they knew and they argued over a girl his cousin had been seeing. The young man in the car pulled out a gun and shot them. Victor was shot two times in the back. He was treated at a nearby hospital,

The Anger and The Anguish

by qimissung on 01-04-2012 at 02:24 PM
I read several good books in 2011. I read "Candide," "The Crying of Lot 49", "Housekeeping," "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius," and "The Dubliners." I read others, but these I read last fall and today it is of "The Dubliners" I speak.

I've been wanting to read something by Joyce. Eventually I hope to read "Ulysses." I think that might be akin to saying that someday I'd like to climb Mount Everest, for

The Bird's Nest

by qimissung on 12-27-2011 at 03:20 PM
looking at it I knew it was different
a bird's nest
full of hope and fear
and the cavalier fulsomeness of life
the blind ability to get up each day under the weight of it all
to go out every day believing you were one of the masses
dressed in the same uniform
believing the same things
that god is good
that love will find a way
believing or hoping to believe that
the others would not notice your vampiric differences

I acquire some books

by qimissung on 12-04-2011 at 08:13 PM
I got up yesterday morning, a Saturday, around 5:45. I washed my face and dressed and walked to my car in the dark. I stopped by my local Starbucks and treated myself to a tall mocha.

I then made my way down Midway to 635; from there to Central Expressway from which I exited at Northwest Highway. My destination was the Half-Price Books located there, or rather the warehouse that I knew was located near it.

Once I arrived I noticed, somewhat to my chagrin, that there
