DSL is cheaper, if it's not Fios. I don't have Fios and I don't even have our Comcast cable wired for upstairs. I am using a converter box currently, which I got with a government coupon I applied for online. Wish they would give one out for antennas, too. Mine is not very good. I re-scanned the TV and now most of the stations are coming in pretty good and in HD. However, I hardly watch TV; mostly watch movies on DVD and even VHS.

The system maintance is not hard to do. It's in the Control Panel; at the bottom left Start button - pull up the menus; on the right click on the CP and you will figure out where it is...at least it's like that on Vista. I think it was similar on XP. I have had both.

I see you found me on Youtube...going now to answer.

see part 2...I have used my library's computers before when my old one crashed for good. It's not too convenient but at least it's a nice small library and I was able to use them anytime I wished. What type internet service do you have. Mine is Verizon DSL and it's only $20 a month....but then again, in these ecomonic crunch times that adds up, too. I can understand. We need a new heater and we have been trying to figure out how to get the money to pay for it. Things are tough everywhere nowdays...it's a shame.

PS: now I hate to give WW up!

Great new!!! Now you know if you have another freeze-up to try that first. You can shut down with the start button, too...then try turning back on...usually it will scan it or a black screen will come up saying something like choose safe mode; however I have waited a few minutes and then it just started again fine. I have even had that happen once or twice with this new computer. Computers are tempermental sometimes. If I were you now, I would check my maintaince and maybe do a defragmentation. I probably would run a full system scan just make myself feel more secure. Most likely nothing will show up. You can also delete your temporary files...find that under Control Panel/Network and Internet. I am sure your son knows how to do all of this. How old is your computer and what brand? I would also suggest a full backup, in case it gets frozen again and you can't remedy it. Can you burn a DVD? If not burn CD's of your photo and document files, etc.
    see part 2...

I left a comment on your blog about your dad, qimi

It is a really great video. Sorry for the song that made you cry. Actually, I'm quite sensitive and often weep at certain scenes and songs. I don't think it's wrong to be sensitive. I believe it's a way to clean the soul. Have you ever filmed a video? I haven't, but I'd love to be a movie director. It must be wonderful to create a story.

Thank you too, for the link to Pie Jesu. It had been long since the last time I listened to it by Charlotte Church. I am more familiar with Sarah Brightman's version, because I have her full discography, being a big fan of Sarah's Do you speak Latin? Do you know what the song says? In case you don't, I have this link with lyrics and a few translations (I don't know which one is the most accurate because I don't speak Latin, though I have a friend who does and I should ask him)

I will keep my fingers. I have unplugged before with my old my old computer many times and it worked. It, too, was past it's prime; actually my son had built it with used parts. Who can tell about those used parts and how old they really are? It might be a browser problem, also. I have even had that happen with my new computer from time to time, but usually it just straightens itself out. Problem is computers get old and technology and online stuff keeps advancing; then they no longer interface well together. Let me know how you make out; at least that is my theory. I sure hope you get your display back. It could be something really minor since it was only a freezeup. Let's hope for the best.

Thank you for that I needed a bit of a pick me up today, and this certainly provided it.

Oh that's awful. Did you try unplugging it? That sometimes will reset it. If it's a laptop, I am not sure what to do. I can ask a friend. If you have a lot on your hard-drive, take it to a Best Buy team and they can remove it and burn to a DVD...that way you won't lose stuff. My son just bought a new laptop for his wife; I think he is using it more than she is! Anyway, he got Windows 7 and he seems to be going crazy over it...he keeps calling me for help. I have Vista so I told him to buy a Dummies book! He told me two days ago his wife's old computer (a Dell) got the 'blue screen of death'. I know then, it's pretty much shot; possibly one can reset the monitor and see if it comes back; but it's doubtful. If your's is not to that stage you might be able to get it to work again. Let me know how you make out. Do you know any guy friends who know computers? Is it an older computer? A few people on here know computers pretty well; you might ask Max or Claes. Maybe they can advise you.

Heretic, rebel, a thing to flout

by qimissung on 12-15-2012 at 02:13 AM
I live in the United States of America, and we had another school shooting today. With horror I listened to the news reports that a gunman had gone into an elementary school and killed 27 people, 20 of them “children between the ages of 5 and 10.” And I listened tiredly and wearily to the usual rhetoric of the newscast without end as they recounted the “worst school shooting in an elementary school.”
I guess they are doing the best they can, but you simply can’t put a qualifier or adjective

In Memoriam

by qimissung on 04-03-2012 at 11:05 PM
One of my former students-he graduated last year-was shot and killed last night around 10 o'clock.

He had just finished playing a game of basketball and was sitting in a car on a dark street, with his cousin. They were waiting for his cousin's ride when another car drove up. It was someone they knew and they argued over a girl his cousin had been seeing. The young man in the car pulled out a gun and shot them. Victor was shot two times in the back. He was treated at a nearby hospital,

The Anger and The Anguish

by qimissung on 01-04-2012 at 02:24 PM
I read several good books in 2011. I read "Candide," "The Crying of Lot 49", "Housekeeping," "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius," and "The Dubliners." I read others, but these I read last fall and today it is of "The Dubliners" I speak.

I've been wanting to read something by Joyce. Eventually I hope to read "Ulysses." I think that might be akin to saying that someday I'd like to climb Mount Everest, for

The Bird's Nest

by qimissung on 12-27-2011 at 03:20 PM
looking at it I knew it was different
a bird's nest
full of hope and fear
and the cavalier fulsomeness of life
the blind ability to get up each day under the weight of it all
to go out every day believing you were one of the masses
dressed in the same uniform
believing the same things
that god is good
that love will find a way
believing or hoping to believe that
the others would not notice your vampiric differences

I acquire some books

by qimissung on 12-04-2011 at 08:13 PM
I got up yesterday morning, a Saturday, around 5:45. I washed my face and dressed and walked to my car in the dark. I stopped by my local Starbucks and treated myself to a tall mocha.

I then made my way down Midway to 635; from there to Central Expressway from which I exited at Northwest Highway. My destination was the Half-Price Books located there, or rather the warehouse that I knew was located near it.

Once I arrived I noticed, somewhat to my chagrin, that there
