hi, saw your posting in Introductions and just wanted to say welcome back. I'm newish, joined litnet in March. Had a friend who was an Army Ranger, told me about dropping from the sky into Iraq. With that picture in my head...glad you're back!

Funny story in my blog. Think you might get a kick out of it. http://www.online-literature.com/forums/blog.php?b=8365.

How's everything? What exactly is your job in the army? (you are in the army, right?) When do you get to return to the states? Also, was I at all helpful in my response about education? I hope it didn't put you off education, but gave you something to think about. You weren't required to answer, but I was wondering what you thought.

    Take care.

Hey djy. I think you would do well in education. Patience is a must. The analogy that pops into my head concerning education is that of climbing over a wall. Your'e on one side, knowledge on the other. Some have only a low wall to climb and they hop over it easily; others have more difficulty or even resist the need to clamber over. You get my drift. Are you willing to help those who are reluctant to do the work required, to encourage, cajole, set boundaries, provide structure, discipline, be interested, believe in them always? If so, then education might just be a career possibility for you.

I've been a teacher for 14 years. Before that I stayed home with my small children (If felt very lucky to get to do that). I really enjoy teaching; it can be really draining emotionally. I really need thosed summers to regroup.

Yeah I'm well. I teach school,so my students and I are kind of clawing our way to the end, as is my personal child (a junior in high school). One girl wondered today why she had to do anything because they'd already taken the "test" (our state-mandated test, the TAKS). I replied "Well,we're still learning," as if it were obvious, which I guess to her it was not.Sigh.

War is kind of boring

by djy78usa on 02-20-2009 at 10:45 PM
Well, I've been deployed for a little over a month now. The time is actually going by pretty quickly, which is nice, but I'm having to find new ways everyday to combat the boredom. I spend a lot of time working out, I have to get my beach-body back before my trip to Hawaii later on this year. I have to run on a treadmil, though, because I can't exactly go out for a nice long run outside. I think that's one of the things I miss most about home... that and beer... glorious, glorious beer. They actually

Getting Settled

by djy78usa on 01-16-2009 at 03:07 AM
I'm starting to get settled into what will be my new home for the next few months. My trip over here was incredibly long, so I'm still suffering from a bit of jet-lag. I'm looking forward to getting to work, which, hopefully, will make the time fly by. Thank-you to all of the well-wishers who stopped by my last post, I really appreciate it.

I do have internet access (obviously), but it is unbelievably slow, so I probably won't spend too much time on Lit-net. I will stop by from time

See You in Septmeber!

by djy78usa on 01-11-2009 at 02:21 AM
Well, the time has come. I'll be heading back overseas sometime soon. I'm not sure exactly when I'm leaving, but I'm having my internet and TV connection shut off tomorrow, so I figured I'd post this now. I'm not sure whether or not I'll have internet access while I'm gone, so this will be one of my last posts until September or October. Don't worry though, I've packed about 15 books to keep me company (I'm going to give Moby Dick another shot), and a pre-packed care package with 10 more ready to

The Murdering Cow

The cow slowly turned her head to look back at the farmer who was milking her. "Knock, knock," she said. Startled, Farmer John could only ask, "who's there?" "The Murdering Cow," answered the verbose bovine. "The murdering cow who?" were the last words the farmer ever spoke.

Un Sac de Produit D’hygiène de Femme

I pop up the collar
on my pink polo shirts
I "hang" with my "brahs"
at Dave Matthews concerts
I wear a white baseball cap,
the sticker's still on the bill,
Hi, nice to meet you,
My name's Massengill.

I love "Family Guy"
I quote it non-stop
I use gallons of gel
my hair's spiked on the top
I say "keep
