Oh, I also gave your book titles and name to our best-selling bookstore, who like to be on top of 'whats new'... so here's hoping!

Peter, I have not, as yet, read your books. I have put in a suggestion to our Library, to obtain them. They have yet to let me know the status.
I do not order stuff online, books, clothes, etc., so I am at the mercy of the library. If they do not come through, then I can try our local bookstore to place an order. I would very much like to read these two books for sure.
Don't know what is new in Sask-a-bush (lol, slang for Saskatchewan). But here in Manitoba we are in the midst of a beautiful autumn...

Upper Limit

by PeterL on Yesterday at 07:26 PM
What is the upper limit of the human lifespan? I recently saw an article that concluded that there is no upper limit to the human lifespan, and I recalled that there had been something about the upper limit being about 300, because murder or accident will get you, if your body holds up that long. I’ll look at the actuarial calculations for that, if I can find them. There are incurable diseases, but eventually cures will also be conquered, and the only real medically related problem will be getting

Better Hydration

by PeterL on 07-13-2018 at 03:15 PM
"I never drink water; that is the stuff that rusts pipes." W. C. Fields
https://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/w_c_fields_151502

I had a conversation with a medical person, who told me that I should hydrate after a CT scan. I said that I would have a few beers. The poor, ignorant person was horrified, so I explained that beer is excellent for hydration, but she had bought into the hydration myth so she was dubious.

Marketing Lies

by PeterL on 06-30-2018 at 03:35 PM
Beyond fake news and other forms of lying we find marketing puffery:
“The FTC stated in 1984 that puffery does not warrant enforcement action by the Commission. In its FTC Policy Statement on Deception, the Commission stated: "The Commission generally will not pursue cases involving obviously exaggerated or puffing representations, i.e., those that the ordinary consumers do not take seriously." e.g., "The Finest Fried Chicken in the World.”

Big Lies and Fake News

by PeterL on 06-24-2018 at 03:48 PM
A lie told often enough becomes truth.
Nicolai Lenin

The expression was coined by Adolf Hitler, when he dictated his 1925 book Mein Kampf, about the use of a lie so "colossal" that no one would believe that someone "could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously." from Mein Kampf

“...a deceitful man will always find plenty who are ready to be deceived.” from Machiavelli's, The Prince, note 2, at ch. XVIII

Time Is Money

by PeterL on 06-13-2018 at 06:22 PM
Origins of the adage "time is money":
"The first cite is a version from Classical Greece "the most costly outlay is
time" attributed to Antiphon. The second cite is from 1572 Discourse
upon Usury, "They saye tyme is precious."" http://listserv.linguistlist.org/pip...ch/097859.html

I had an appointment this morning at Baystate Franklin, but when I got there I was informed that the appointment had been
