I really didn't like the ending. But I have to admit, it is pretty good. I remember reading it out loud(trying to focus) and I got to the last few paragraphs...then I was completely disgusted. Amusing my butt!

    Oh dear...

    Well, I will...available from what?

I may have to...elck! especially since college professors may think that Thoreau is very tasty.

    well...ah, no...not really... I feel illiterate...

I was actually wondering though, have you read a short story called "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson? Although it is a 20th century story...I wanted to know what you thought of it...if you haven't, here's a link to the story. http://www.classicshorts.com/stories/lotry.html

Yes, I don't disagree with you one that last statement. It did help shape this present government in many ways...but I will leave it for the politicians to read it. As you said, it does state clearly in parts of "Civil Disobedience" but I do not care to upset my stomach for the meaning to settle in my thoughts.

Yeah, it tastes nasty! lol. Jk. That was assigned in class a few years ago, but I couldn't stand to read more than a few paragraphs...I ended up skimming through the whole thing. I hope they don't assign it again later on...I really don't think I will enjoy reading that...again.

What about Walden. Do you think that he is like Thoreau?

Sounds like you have fun doing that...although what you told them is the truth you believe in...not everyone believes that what you say is the truth( refer back to our arguments.)

That's actually the one quote I found by Thoreau that I like...it has a lot of meaning for someone who keeps trying despite all their failures(of course everyone has a few).

Oh, what do you think of this quote:

Keep up the fire of thought, and all will go well.

It is kind of fun, especially since I don't have enough people to argue with at home.

haha. And neither shall I. We are forever butting heads like two predators fighting over property. That's why that pic of the lion and the tiger reminded me of our debates.

All I see is blah blah blah...

it sure is, but then, every one is wrong every once in a while...might as well give it a try and be wrong, then just never try it at all. That's how people don't succeed. Ever heard of the saying, "If at first you don,t succeed, try try try again"?

Ah, give up Peter, I got that one.

Let's prevent WW III

by PeterL on 04-10-2024 at 07:26 PM
This morning, I saw a reference to Sir Winston Churchill, and that got me remembering him. He deserves a great deal of credit for bringing WW II to an end and some credit for building the postwar World and NATO. As we all recall, he replaces Neville Chamberlain as prime minister of the UK. Chamberlain had helped start the war by trying appease Hitler. Churchill spoke against appeasement, and that got him the PM job after the war had begun. Poland was invaded on October 5, 1939, and Churchill became

Greater Fool

I was looking at business stories in Google Business, and I was amazed to see several about Bitcoin increasing in value. While Extraordinary_Popular_Delusions and the Madness of Crowds is the classic study of people getting carried away in investments. There have been plenty of more recent example. There have been several stock bubbles in the last few decades, and some people regard the U/S/ housing market as having been a bubble, e=even though it was government policy to increase the value of residential

Ocean Currents

by PeterL on 02-12-2024 at 04:14 PM
There were several articles in my news feed about the Atlantic Ocean currents collapsing. It will be a disaster when the ocean currents collapse, because that will mean that the Earth has stopped rotating. Apparently, some people are pushing the idea that ocean currents are caused by something other than the Coriolis effect acting on the oceans.

The ocean currents exist, because the water is not firmly attached to the solid Earth. At the Equator, the surface of the Earth is moving

Plowshares into Swords

Plowshares into Swords

I was planning to write about the reforestation of North America after the last glacial maximum. It is still going on, as the early cold weather trees continue to die off and leave space for hardwoods and warm weather trees. The process is clear to anyone who has thought about it or observed that while Maine was known as the Pine Trees there have been getting replaced by hardwoods. But anyone cane write that post, so I decided to write about beating plowshares

Poetic Mead

Poetic Mead

I was surviving and recovering from an automobile accident, when I received an email from an acquaintance who asked something about the saga. I have never written any sagas, so in my reply I suggested that I might put it in verse. I have never written any sagas, so I looked up the form, and I found this
